Hi cam, tell me about your Zu omen, what did you think of them and why did you sell them? I just a pair to replace my Vandersteen c2e. I'm still trying to find the best spot for them. They are a lot brighter then the Vandys. I'm running them trough my Mcintosh 2105.

Hi Maurice. I found them to be a little laid back in the top end and quite full in the midrange.

Positioning made a huge difference and I ended up with them very forward into the room which worked really well. Imaging and clarity improved immensely.

Unfortunately by doing so you lose bass. I filled this out by using two 12" subs crossed over at around 70Hz, though I also like a lot of bass in my music.

They ended up around another 2 feet further forward than this photo shows. I hope this helps?

Everything now wired up and tested. Quite happy with the result. It weighs a ton and is rock solid - no movement, though expected. The threaded rod could hold up a couple of ton if needed... Sent f

Also - I forgot to mention, make sure you raise them off the floor. This helps bass output. I ended up getting some larger spikes to get them high enough above the carpet.

Thank you cam I did make sure they are off the floor, in fact I have them on a granite slab about 1 1/2" thick. I have no problem with the bass it's more about the highs at about 95db the sound seems to get scrambled. Im also playing around with the equalizer of the c33 to adjust the sound. I could also be in need of sound treatment.....

If it's the highs, pull them out into the room as far as you can and experiment. Also I forgot to mention, tilting them backwards a little also helps the soundstage.

Rainy Saturday here so thought I'd throw an update out.

Valves are now absent from my system. Whilst the Tram sounded great, integration with HT and family friendliness just wasn't there. It's been replaced by a 1st generation Emotiva XSP-1 which doesn't sound half bad.

I've also been in touch with Kiat on the Duntechs to see if there's any work to be done on them. As a result I pulled out the crossovers for some photos and was pleasantly surprised by the build quality. I know we all love pics..

Tweeter out for identification - note the velcro allowing removal of the acoustic foam without having to re-glue.

Yup and yup.

Couldn't stay away from Primaluna. After playing with some "high end" gear the brand is bullet proof compared to others. Found some Phillips and Brimar NOS rectifiers too. Now I just need to run the valves in and compare what it going to work best for the current setup.

LP12 - not yet. I need to source some headshell cables. Will be trying to do that today. :)

What a sweet setup!

Bet that Caribou album sounds  sweet. Nice set-up. Surely the AR- XB would have given it a scare ;)

Gorgeous....

Caribou is well recorded, just like their first album which I also have - double LP. If you don't have it I can highly recommend it.

AR - Maybe. Though the cart and arm probably would've let it down. Pity I don't still have it to compare.. [emoji3]

Which Duntech's are you after? I know they are close to releasing some new products.

Either the Crown Prince or the Sovereigns - like everyone else. :)

Yes, they are timeless speakers! I prefer the sound of the Crown Prince/Princess to the Sovereigns (which typically require a larger room to work properly).

I know that they are working on a new Princess; perhaps it will be released next year.

I just can't help myself.. had to try out some 845 valve goodness. When someone told me that a single 845 per side wouldn't work, I thought I should try two... :party

They are currently in getting the once over by a local tech. Next will be to source some 845B valves.

They are Antique Sound Labs AQ1009 845 DHT mono blocks. There isn't too much on the net about these things so I'll start a thread in the Amps section of the forum to collect the info I've found so far..

Test box coming before Friday hopefully. Trying a 370L box ported to suit 25Hz. If I can make it work it'll be build time for two of them.

So I had some CNC work done for a test enclosure. It was really easy to put together. Rough and ready - no bracing or padding, just proof of concept. Kids shown for scale..
