This BM-

You were going to babysit it after the GP this year whilst I went across to Tassie, oh sorry, I didn't talk to you about it. :D

All coming along nicely, am sure you are allowing yourself some excitement by now.

I would have been happy to look after it for you! There's no worry about it getting used, I wouldn't know what to do with it. 2 wheels scares me.

I showed an interest in 2 wheels at age 7, and dad quickly got me into Go-Karts, which ended up being a 15 year hobby and probably kept me alive (or at least with all my limbs).

Heaps has happened since this pic which was just an update of the above ones.

I probably didn't explain this pic well enough. That niche you see fits 6 of those BIGW cubes for vinyl storage. They're slightly recessed into the wall, and should appear to be 'floating' once all complete.

And I thought this was relevant to my mental state while trying to get this room built.

Well it's just THICK and very soft upon the heel as you would know.

I've had many a person crash here and literally sleep on the floor with just a pillow and a blanket.

Beats the pants off floor boards and a rug.

That may have more to do with the Alcohol consumed and the music being played  :hiccup  :D

Any hints on your direction for the room treatment plans ? Specifically any thing happening with the ceiling ?

Predominantly Vicoustic treatments, with a couple of DIY solutions where I can't find a commercial product for what I want to do.

The ceiling is a tricky one, as I have a beam running through the middle of the room. We're looking at solutions now. I will update in a lot more detail when I get to that part of the project.

So close .... yet so far away.

Plastering is nearly finished. Should be done by end of week. Planning on painting this weekend, and carpeting next week. Then fit off the Vicoustic acoustic treatments.

The side window glass has been frosted, framed up, insulated and then plastered over.

Side wall has been studded out and insulated.

Side wall plastered, and the front of the room bulkhead / column has been built and plastered. This was to make the room symmetrical (don't ask, it's a problem I have with everything needing to be symmetrical). It was also a column to allow all the cables and two dedicated 20A power circuits to come down from the ceiling (walls are all double brick). Thick triple weave 100% blockout curtains have already been sourced for the two sides of the column.

The back of the room. Cupboard is now built in. Still have to finish the doors.

Opposite side wall (internal) now studded out, and insulated.

Cables in the column.

Looking good Marc

Going a tad too slow for my liking @@Marc - need to get cracking if you want to hold a GTG this YEAR!  :P

Yeah yeah, perfection takes time I know.

@@Marc looks great mate..! Have you run shielded power cables the whole way from distribution board?

Yes @@Towny.

Looks great, I would love to attend some demo nights and would be more than happy to bring some of my own gear over.  You give so much to this hobby (addiction).

Yes @@Towny.

great idea! I was thinking of doing the same thing..

It's easier to do these things now of course.

I ran 2 x shielded runs back to the switchboard.
I also ran two CAT6 runs back to the router also.

That's a fantastic idea for a room Marc! Looking forward to seeing it come together.

Looking good Marc. Be keen to finally get around - seems to have been far too long between catch-ups these days.

Not sure if it's been mentioned already, but what's the plan for flooring?

Carpet. A nice, very thick carpet with Ultimate underlay. It was ordered on Friday, to be fitted this Friday - meaning the room will be DONE this week!

Lots has happened, and I've been too busy to keep this up to date. I have taken a few pics along the way though so will update in due course.

Well done. Can't wait to see the finished product.

I'm looking to re-carpet my HT room in the next few weeks. It's only taken me 3.5 years to get to this stage  . Did you research underlays? Is Ultimate a Bridgestone product? I know some have used Jute/Horse hair in HT rooms for absorption properties

Dunlop I think. It was recommended as the best for "acoustics" by the carpet wholesaler, whatever that means.

Coming from floor boards I think anything will be better.

All the Vicoustic treatment arrived today. I'm grouting tiles and then applying that tonight.

I put the ultimate underlay in my sound room with pure wool twist pile so you don't see vac marks or traffic marks. It's that thick that speaker spikes barely get through it to the floor and it feels fantastic on bare feet and is nice to fall asleep on. Shoes are of course banned from entry. Short of using actual acoustic underlay it was the best I could find. Acoustic underlay is silly silly money, it was like 4K+ for my 5 by 4 room.

Hurry up salami man as I have to use up my cancelled air ticket in the next 4 months or so. Have you made a separate little pen for Evil and his dodgy glass grasp? You'll need it and you know that.

Totally slanderous and disparaging remark from bigmouth @@Luc !!

Plastic sheeting scattered underneath should suffice, plus Scotchguard as backup!  ;)

Thread needs more pics

Hi, Could you please give me your power wiring brand and spec's, also your carpet and underlay brands and spec's.

Many thanks, Jon

Any wonder it's taking so long.

Can't see a single stubby in any of the photos.

Getting closer!

Weeeee!
