Time for me to get off it again, though am not 'wanting' it as much as I used to.

On hollies so have been grogging it up a bit, with the corresponding tightening of the belt. :(

You are right Daz, about not "wanting" as much for the beer.

Grabbed a 6 pack last night after quite a big long day moving stuff, had 1 and the rest are in the fridge. Just doesn't seem to be the reward in the beer like it was.

Good luck @@davidro keep it up, first month is the hardest.

I enjoy a beer when I have one, as you know, haha, but if I don't have any for a few weeks it doesn't worry me at all. I don't drink on my own anymore either.

You are hitting the chord today Daz :D , drinking alone after breaking the habit, just doesn't "have the entertainment value" anymore.

After breaking the booze cycle there is much more enjoyment to be had from, being with Family, reading a good book, or soldering some new bit of prized audio gear, particularly in the wee hours.

Glad to have my life back, booze is particularly sinister once it has you.

  • 4 weeks later...

I just realised that I have been off the grog for nine years now, as of this month. Time has passed by incredibly quickly for me with not a backwards glance to the old days, so to speak.

Yeah, can pretty safely say you're cured Kluckster, haha.

I am just sticking to the 6 pack per weekend rule which is a good compromise for me. Unfortunately have been eating sweets and bikkies etc instead so am still hovering around 95-97 kg's, not hard to identify the addictive personality.

Still running two to three times a week of an arvo but am only doing around 7k now as it gets dark pretty quick after 4:30, am getting back home around 5:30 ish. My quack tells me this has sent my good cholesterol through the roof so that's one thing going OK. :D

Legs can get a bit beaten up though, need some new shoes methinks as I think Wal once stated they don't last long with running on the bitumen. They are maybe 8-9 months old now.

35ish weeks, 20-30k's a week, 90+ kg through the shoe per stride, etc etc, = time to go shopping. There ya go, all mathemagically justified in case you have a hard time spending coin on yourself. Far simpler though to apply my wife's thought process when it comes to shoes of "Oooh, don't they look pretty". Deal done.

I spend it quicker than I make it, no probs there. :/

Meh, never seen Armaguard following a hearse I guess.

A mate of mine, he drinks again now but he was off it for about three months straight at the end of last year.

He couldn't get over how well he slept when his body was completely alcohol free.

For me the worst thing is the groggy state of my physical on the following day lol

Mrs CE and I decided to stop for May. No particular reason, just to see. We're generally only a bottle of wine with dinner and possibly a G&T or something beforehand. 4 or 5 days a week, in general. I'm actually doing the 5:2 thing at the moment, so two of those days I just can't justify the calories.

We had one exception of a prior engagement on the 7th. Haven't really noticed much different except for the lack of good accompaniment during dinner. But we'll stick it to the end. Don't plan on doing it in June (some food and wine commitments) or July (big birthday month), but maybe later in the year...?

So today marks 12 months off the grog. Haven't touched a drop. Pretty happy that I've made it. Also got my old job back today, so it's been a pretty good day. Might go an have a beer to celebrate. 😜

No way, just jokes. Didn't make it this far to throw it all away.

@@Darren69, I know what you mean with the addictive personality and the sweets. Since the marathon last year haven't been running as much and can't stop eating yummy delicious sweetly good things, have put on 10 kgs. Back into the running now, I'm doing the Sydney Marathon in sept. Have a bit of a holiday while I'm there as well. Might try to catch up with some of the SNA folks while I'm there. Good work with the running mate, you're doing well. ( might be time for some new shoes I think) 😜

Keep up the good work people.

Cheers Dave

Hullo Dave and lovely to see you again! Couldn't PM you for some reason.

Yes, new shoes time again, shall go with the Kayano's again methinks. Huge differences in prices on the 22's across the net, shall need to watch for fakes.

Hey Darren, cleared my inbox. The more I wear the 22s the more I like them. I get mine from Jim Kidd sports here in Perth. Normally around $199. Catch of the Day has them for $179 at the moment.

Cheers Dave.

Also got my old job back today, so it's been a pretty good day.

Very happy to hear that  :thumb:

Thankyou sir, I'm pretty happy as well. The missus is even happier, she's already planning a holiday.😄

Another reason for you to sell those Spendors!

The shock absorption in runners doesn't last more than a month or 2 for a regular runner, even though they look new. "The candle that burns twice as brightly..."

So how are we going?

I'm going great, am around 99.5 kg! :D

It's very interesting reading old posts of your own, I went back and read the first one from nearly two years back and I don't feel like that now. It's all a time and place thing no doubt, as is most of life.

I am in a good place, everything is going OK, have a loving partner and we have been living together for 12 months, all the family is healthy and happy, from parents through to grand kids, am heading towards my 48th birthday.

I still try for my three walks a week, it is still the 7.5km circuit, I don't run much of it now, as I was getting sore knees (which I never had until running, not even through my 22 year civil construction career) but I don't sweat it if life gets in the way. My cholesterol levels have stayed good since I started more cardio instead of weights.

My partner is a gorgeous Nigella type foody who wouldn't care if I was 150kg so that doesn't help. But it's nice. My place makes a lot of nice smells nowadays, as compared to before the 'move in' happened, haha. I also now have stylish pillows and better wine glasses here as well along with regular floral arrangements.

The pillows still get chucked on the floor, a man has to keep boundaries.

Can still bang out a respectable amount of wide grip overhand chin ups but I might be a bit sore the next day. :D

But, I came to the conclusion of- I can enjoy now and die or be very strict with myself and die. I have had a few fitness fanatic friends pass recently and to be honest, I don't envy their lives. Sure, they might have liked what they did but it did not ensure longevity.

So now, I'm going to grab a few Carlsberg's (made under strict supervision by Coopers, you know) and some Pistachios, put on some Killers and go out the front patio with my dear partner and the dog and talk and see if some more showers don't come over before the light fades.

What a great Post @Darren69

Well done Daz, this is what life is really all about. The rest is just white noise:):thumb:
