Best HiFi rack......ever!

Absolutely beautiful mate, well done.

Beautiful work , if you want solid ,that is solid . :thumb:

I like it!

Neolithic chic!

Great stuff thiing , I have just one small critique - the feet on all your gear may over time discolour the timber finish - is this somethiing you have yet to address ?

Edited by Willow

Willow it is a potential problem - the 7008 2 PAC is pretty tough -

If I need to in the future I'll just sand it back and re do it :-)

Love it Andy, good for TT isolation. Where did you score such an lovely chunk of timber?

Yes, great work Andy and if there is ever a Tsunami, you can just surf it with your Hi Fi gear high and dry ; )

The dump of course Simon - cost me $10

But it looked a little different

I should have known mate, good spot. Were you looking for a plank for a rack or was it a spur of the moment idea? Either way its great

What a great idea. Custom and unique. Well done mate.

I'm waiting to see the two-tier version

Did you do all the work on the 'plank' yourself Andy and if so can you tell me please what tools did you use and what finish did you apply?

Looks bloody fantastic !

Typical Thing ingenuity. Excellent work  :thumb:

Yes grumps did all the work myself

- electric plane

- belt sander rough grit followed by smooth grit belts

- filled cracks

- hand sanded starting at 120 grit down to 400 grit

- first coat 7008 wattyl 2 pac thin by 10%

- sanded with 400

- second, third and coats normal strength sanded with 600 grit

- final coat 10% thinned - decided not to use steel wool finish as I was happy with final look

Used quality hand brush to apply all coats and ensured careful application with minimum amount of lacquer as possible.

Hope that helps

PS a friend welded the legs up for me and I just sprayed with 2 coats of Matt black - granite bases are cutting boards from Kmart - $15 each

Thanks Andy, you are a skilled and patient man,

Made a few adjustments to the layout - bought extra granite chopping boards from Kmart so I could place power amps on the floor - allows me to spread the other gear out and add my second TT that does the 45 duties!

Happy with the way it all fits.
