Coffee espresso Machine

Featured Replies

Another money sink - metal I find a failure with coffee, taste, too hot on the mouth. Glass can be superb when it is new but the aesthetics soon fade with repeated runs through the dishwasher.

Our favourites are the Illy range of espresso cups. There are multiple different collections as well as the plain logo type all with the same beautiful espresso cup

On a more everyday note we utilise ACF china (Italian) which have curved bottoms to the cups - helps with latte art are plain white and are robust for the dishwasher. Also are heavier than many and hold heat well. We got ours via Dean Morgan at Emu Plains. http://morganscoffee.com/

Hi guys,

You do have some nice ones named. I definitely have to get some. :P

I was in DJ trying to pick some bargains and saw this bodum and bought a couple to try. $19.50, I think, 30% discount, for a pair. Not too bad.

Versalab - the audiophiles grinder. Made by the designer of Versa Dynamica. Combined flat and conical set, continuous adjustment, doserless.

Kevin

owww, Kevin you've done it now! I've gone and ordered one:-)

it sounds like each machine is built to order, so there isn't a warehouse full of grinders waiting for shipment, hence the delay. I'll clarify this with them and let you know if you want.

Hi Michael,

So it is a go for you. How did you find their reply and what is the lead time? Exactly how much landed door to door?

Tks.

Jack

price - don't ask! (probably 2k by the time it reaches my kitchen). Reply was prompt and courteous, delivered in late August. 50% up front, remained at completion.

Good news.

What grinder are you using now and what do you think the new one will give you, apart from LOOK? :P

Mazzer Super Jolly is also a popular, a bit larger than the Mini and cost 10-15% more. What do you think if I get this?

Sorry, stupid questions but just a quick one! :P

currently use a doserless Rancilio Rocky. I'm wanting a better grind but don't want a doser machine as IMHO it wastes a lot of coffee/ allows stored coffee to go stale. Most higher end machines are dosed, this one isn't. IMHO a grinder is more important than an espresso machine in determining end result. The most important component is of course the barista but I'm working on that too. My machine is a LaScala Butterfly.

Are you going to get the PRESS as well?

no, I've got a tamper for that. It's important to be able to adjust tamp pressure as well as grind.

Can't wait to see you report after you have got it. :P

Who sells Mazzer in Australia? Dealers in Sydney? How much for Super Jolly, any idea? Any users, comments?

Many thanks in advance!

:P

Don't blame me - I am reporting my wifes obsession. I am only related by marriage and a mere bystander - she makes better coffee than I do.

Smithy,

Coffee Parts sell Mazzer domestic grinders. The may also be able to get you a Super Jolly which is part of the commercial range. I've used these guys before and found them to be very good. They have a very good reputation.

There is another dealer Espresso Machines, who stock the Super Jolly. I don't know much about the Super Jolly model, but in general grinders don't come much better than the Mazzer range. And don't let the name Mini fool you....it ain't :P

TalkCoffee in Victoria also have a good range.

cheers

I can highly recommend Chris from TalkCoffee, I bought my Vibiemme machine from him 6 months ago and have had nothing but excellent service from him. He sells good grinders too, I like the electronic Macap one that he has there.

Wow I find an audio forum and they have a huge slab all about coffee! :P

I have a Rancilio Silvia machine, Rocky doserless grinder and a Pullman Tamper. Personally I love the manual machines as I can have total control over the extraction time, and adjust for varying conditions like temp, humidity etcetc.

And yes I agree with just about everything so far...

Beans are the most important - FRESH!

Then the grinder

Then the machine

And finally practise practise practise... and more practise!

Cheers

Pete!

Hi guys,

Welcome to the crazy coffee thread by even crazier audiophiles! :)

Just love to see buddies here going crazy for exotic gears.

Today, Master 2sheds was kind enough to bring his gears over to my place and show grasshopper how coffee is made. Bags of beans for roasting, not counting...

DSC_5841.jpg

Roaster on the bench, grasshopper asked no questions..., just speechless!

DSC_5840.jpg

Grinder is really the key to a good cup of coffee..

DSC_5835.jpg

Fresh crema oozing out beautifully from the ground coffee...

DSC_5839.jpg

Smooth and aromatic, my best pull so far...

Thanks Master, what you have taught me today has saved me months in trial and errors.

Next, get a good grinder and learn about beans. Roaster? Next project!

Grasshopper,

You have learned well, my son :)

cheers

Bloody hell, is there ANYTHING that 2sheds does not know?

Oh, Keith, what a coincidence, he said the same about you. Great men all think alike, or, takes one to know one! :)

Bloody hell, is there ANYTHING that 2sheds does not know?

Keith,

I really DID say what JCR says...:D Let's put it this way - I'm pretty good at Trivial Pursuit, but dig deep and, alas, I have much to learn....

Put it down to a 5 minute attention span :)

cheers

2sheds

OK smartypanses....seeing as you both know so much....how many fingers am I holding up? :)

No, actually thats too easy....:D

All this coffee is making me thirsty. Great looking shot (and gear!) there JCR.

Cheers,

Jake
