I’m upset about how easy it is to upset someone. Although it is only possible to upset someone who chooses that for themselves. But yes, it is difficult to use humour when not everyone gets it.

I'm upset now; enough so that I posted for the first time in ages to register how upset I am. </TongueInCheek>

Good point on the humour component; it can seem like there is a wilful sullen undercurrent to some.

I thought the idea of the additional low-baller management in itself was worthy of a chortle, thanks @Marc.

Lowballing is never a problem and then one day you go to sit in the car seat and sit on one and the pain is excruciating. It’s just something that happens with age………. Oops I think I’ve misunderstoo

  • Is there one for Flippers as well 🤔

  • I'm not as passionate about it as you are @075Congo I see it differently perhaps. A lowballer wasn't ever really a potential buyer in the first place. They are just an opportunist, and ultimately, i

I'll take that as a win!

Maybe for a handful, and i think most ppl would be humoured by it. Like everything lets trial it out and see.

depending on your powers of persuasion ..a low baller can be turned with a returning high ball :D and made to understander why they must swallow it :D

some you clearly just let go to keeper though.. :)

fine with low ball management ... bring it on ..

The lowballers are nuthin' here compared to Car Sales!

Aah, bb ... you're obviously black belt!

With lowballers you can justify using recycled packaging . Like a couple of used nappies and a dead rat.

What someone doing something dodgy might get offended when called out for it... NOOOOOO..... !!! 🤯🫨🫣😥

On second thoughts F the politically correct times we live in, if you don't want to get offended then don't do schitt that deserves flack coming your way.

If you don't want to be called an A-hole then don't be an A-hole !!

Many sellers are complete dreamers and need tellin' (as in The Castle) we should have a High-Ballers response too.

Huh - No-way!

There's no shame in chasing a bargain and better a low-ball response than no response at all. I've sold a few items on here and it's never knotted my knickers.

However..........( and you guys knew there would be a however ) I often see the same seller listing the same product, at the same price, for months on end and despite the fact that pricing is their business and none of mine, I often feel like ( politely ) contacting them with a reminder that if it didn't sell for the asking price in March, then it most likely won't sell in November at the original price, especially when an almost identical product is currently listed at a 20% lower price by another member.

There definitely are cases of dreamers which are either deluded or another form of opportunist, however there is also the case where what you are selling might be either a niche product or of high value where it can take time to find the right buyer.

For some sellers if for example you have a pair of speakers worth $100k new it may not be worth dropping the price down to under $10,000 before you get a nibble and better off being patient or keeping them if they don't sell.

Case closed. It won't be implemented.

It was just intended to be light-hearted, which I feel this place could do with.

But evidently not, as someone just might get upset.

Maybe instead you could add one of those green boxes into the classifieds with the following so as to protect their feelings.

Dear Lowballers and Flippers,

While your actions are not against forum policy and you are are welcome to do so, please note that you are complete bottom feeders and the scum of the earth and warning some members may let you know this which may cause great offence for you. 😭

I’m getting a sneaking suspicion that some people are not all that favourably disposed towards folk who offer to purchase at a price that is below what might be considered “fair”.

Fair ... FAIR, Sir sz? 🤨 WTF is that!

Just like 'truth' - there's your truth ... and then there's my truth! And so ... my fair is the only one that's true! 😁

That's hardly fair! 😂

isnt it sometimes just understanding why someone thinks it worth far less ? worth asking .. as can then set them right :D let them know how they are misguided ! hehe your price listing at has to be justified after all.. on other hand they might be justified and might discover how you havent quite priced it right ?

sometimes its just something someone cant actually afford ? .. which is understandable too.. but thats more their issue than yours.. ie possible you cant afford to let it go any cheaper either :) for well known folks i have also offered payment terms then. one or two posting here included :D

so it doesnt have ot always be case of submitting to the low ballers way.. just matter of turning it around for a sale.. its possible .. so welcome the low baller management :D feature ...

ps unfortunately if you expect any lower the forum software penalises you.. you still pay %sales based on list price.. perhaps forum needs low baller management for fees too hehe only when terms agreed with low baller of course...

Tell me how we could manage this?

When we relied on honesty, all of a sudden every ad was selling for less than 50% of the asking price. Yet, this very thread has proven that 50% of the asking price is a "low ball" and dealt with accordingly.

Honesty doesn’t work we know that. Even folks that been here long time we know were selling things day in day out not paying a cent. We are talking 10s $100s of thousands of stuff…

eBays method of managing low ballers is you put option to accept offers, allowed comms and counter offers etc

But when accept an agreed lower offer you only pay on offer not on original listed price

Of course you are not eBay … but it is just a quirk of where we are …. Might not be an answer. Why I said perhaps and that a some sort of low ballers management needs including so you get your fair cut …

Not to mention the stuff that must be sold after the classified has expired. No fees collected there.

No one has to sell at any price. I am happy to pay fair fees for a fair service. It’s up to me to price realistically including a calculation on the fees required.

There's been a lot of noise made about Seller's Fees over the years, and even the odd bit of abuse still comes my way - well actually, more often than "the odd bit".

It might come as a suprise, but the average seller fee is less than $5. The Seller's Fees do not even remotely cover the costs to provide it, nor cover the development costs/investment. But I genuinely don't expect anyone to care about that. But as always warned, the new system very very quickly exposed many that were doing the wrong thing, and as promised, they were not banned - they were simply put on Up Front Fees only. There's 195 users now on Up Front Only. We'll continue doing that.

But when someone sells something lower than what they advertised it, the difference in fees at the % often amounts to just a few dollars. So I'm not sure it's fair to say they are being "penalised" as such for selling at a lower price - when it was made very clear from the moment they created their ad that was the case. We have always encouraged Seller's to include the Fees in their advertised price anyway. Again, we are not talking significant amounts of money in the vast majority of ads.

Let's not bog down on this discussion. It's the festive season. There is much to be happy about reflecting on 2025 and I would rather channel my energy in that direction.

When I first saw the title of this thread I thought it was going to be about male aging and changes to the body’s connective tissue matrix.

Glass half full is always a good thing :)

Apologies if this has been addressed earlier in the thread. I have never made an offer let alone made a 'lowball' offer. If you want introduce a lowballmanagement notice, you need to be somewhat clear about what constitutes lowballing. I don't think we want to put off those who want to make a reasonable offer. Having seen a lowball management notice without some clarity, they may baulk thinking they will be considered lowballing.
