Lowballing is never a problem and then one day you go to sit in the car seat and sit on one and the pain is excruciating. It’s just something that happens with age………. Oops I think I’ve misunderstoo

  • Is there one for Flippers as well 🤔

  • I'm not as passionate about it as you are @075Congo I see it differently perhaps. A lowballer wasn't ever really a potential buyer in the first place. They are just an opportunist, and ultimately, i

That’s beautiful @Eggmeister , you are a beacon for us all

I’ve not experienced it here very much and TBH neither on FB in regard to HiFi gear. I’ve sold cables etc on FB and while I’ve had lower offers, the ones I’ve accepted are genuine people who have come to pick up in person. Actually found myself an electrician for domestic work through one sale. 😊

As far as buying through Stereonet classifieds I have found some serious bargains which really preclude any need for “haggling”.

The question remains, should I turn on the field in the Classifieds Ads, for the sake of humour?

Probably not, there will be someone who will be offended by it

I've found lowballers mainly on facebook marketplace , not just for hifi , but most categories .I get responses like ' I can't afford it , will you take X amount ?' Or if something is $1000 , just get ' $400 ? '. Nothing else . In the current economy its definitely a buyers market , but with vintage it seems like there almost is no market . Another problem is trying to sell when you don't live in a major city but in a rural/regional area . I have had instances where something sits for quite a while then bang , someone sees and and next thing its sold .

That was my concern. Just trying to make the place a little more lighthearted :)

Yes, or they’ll tell you that it’s offensive to someone else. 🙄

I'm offended that it isn't turned on yet! There...

🤣

I don't think I've ever really had a lowball offer. Maybe you all just need to change your avatar to StereoNET and your username to Administrator? 🤣

Good idea!

Maybe I'll change my user name to Stereonet now that you've changed back to Marc 😀

I'd soon find out who gets offended in the joke of the day thread I'm sure 😁

An offer for all my mbl kit and my response

Jeepers!

That is so bad it's almost exquisite in its audacity.

When things get that crazy, I guess laughter and acknowledgement thereof, is the best course of action.

Hey I made that offer in good faith, you shouldn't broadcast it for everyone else to see

(also it was in Japanese Yen so I don't know what you're complaining about)

I never get upset by a lowball offer. I know how low I'll go on an item, and if they can't step up then the deal doesn't get done. The last low baller thanked me for not getting angry with him - obviously that happens to him quite a bit. What I like is that I now know who they are, so effectively they've outed themselves, and I'm more knowledgeable for it.

If you want to go ahead.

If it was me I wouldn't. Not worth the 'pain' you will most likely receive from people not treating it as light-hearted.

I am ok with answering with civility but "love" is a bridge too far.

I really got a low ball person one day without any ill mannered intent and in fact any intent at all, other than to decline the offer.

He (because I know he is a he ) was offended when I used only one word in response to his low ball offer which was......no.

He replied to his earlier PM by asking things like "why" and " WTF ".

Some may see this as passive aggressive, in which case I disagree, but it was a simple ,effective, polite reply to a question IMO.

One person's "low-balling" is another person's "cheeky offer" and another person's "legitimate business tactic". There's plenty to get upset about in the world without getting knotted knickers about someone letting me know they'd be prepared to buy my FS item at $X instead of the $Y I'm asking.

Saying "no way" to a lowballer raises my BP much less than (eg) fielding any of the scam phone calls I get daily.

I don't take it personally as I tend not to see it as a denigration of the item I'm selling or my pricing strategy - just some character being incredibly hopeful. And hope is a worthwhile commodity. 🙂

I have sold on Gumtree, eBay and Marketplace and it's the absolute worst!

I've had more low ball offers on SNA than Gumtree and Marketplace combined.

I delete low ball offers outright as I can't be bothered responding.

Yep activate it..lol. If they keep doing it maybe think of adding a 'lowballer' badge to their profile

Perhaps I misunderstand, but if you genuinely believe that doing so would improve the SNA experience for some at the expense of others, then that raises the real question: should humour or point-scoring take precedence over maintaining a fair, respectful, and inclusive environment for all members? SNA works best when features and decisions add genuine value to the community as a whole, not when they risk creating division or discomfort, even if only intended in jest.

But shirley, the least you could've done, rt - when he asked "why" ... was a simple response, saying something like "bcoz I think you are an ars@hole - and I don't deal with ars@holes"!

That might have taught him something about himself that he'd never previously picked up! 🙄 Which might've been a good deed. 😄

Case closed. It won't be implemented.

It was just intended to be light-hearted, which I feel this place could do with.

But evidently not, as someone just might get upset.

I’m upset about how easy it is to upset someone. Although it is only possible to upset someone who chooses that for themselves. But yes, it is difficult to use humour when not everyone gets it.
