SoundGuy
Item Condition: Used as New Shipping Options: Pickup available and you can audition. Suburb or Town: Perth State: WA Payment Method: Cash, EFT Reason for selling: Upgrade Possibly the Best Sounding Lintons in Australia/the world. - RRP $3399 - Bought brand new from Frank Prowse - Come with Original boxes and stands - Comprehensive Crossover update done in 2022 (See Parts list costing $209 not including labour of approx $500). How is the new sound compared to original Lintons? - High: Much more open while maintaining Linton warmth signature. Mid: much much clearer and transparent (not as thick and muddy as the original). Bass: tighter bass (less boomy) Details of upgrade done below: There is a post on YouTube about a Linton crossover upgrade of a single capacitor providing a noticeable improvement. That's encouraging but what's interesting is that the best existing capacitor was upgraded and the others of lesser quality neglected! The tweeter has a third order crossover, so there are two capacitors that need to be upgraded for maximum effect. These were both replaced with the excellent value Jantzen Z-Cap capacitors and the high-power wire-wound resistors also upgraded to non-inductive metal oxide resistors. The midrange crossover also received upgraded parts where they were in the signal line (i.e., not shunts) - Jantzen Z-Caps and non-inductive metal oxide resistors. The biggest improvement in the midrange crossover is replacing a 22uF bipolar electrolytic with 2 x Jantzen Z-Caps. Not only are the Z-Caps much better tolerance (for left / right balancing) but they are much better sounding than the cheaper electrolytic capacitors originally installed.
