Luc Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 I have a album by...(geez I forgot his name...umm, an American singer songwriter(same vintage as Wainwright 111 + The Boss as they all got signed by the same label in 69 according to a Louden track..help me here guys) and there's this wonderful song on it actually it's one of those albums that nearly has a full compliment of good songs and we know that's a rare thing don't we. Anyway, when I first heard it it was love at first listen, where had this guy been hiding all my life? and there was this particular song where the chick doing the backing vocal had a wonderful throaty, slightly deep voice that just went so so well with the song and I loved her and the song...a quick look at the album notes and there she was: Chrissie Amphlet! I was gobsmacked, what's she doing on this quirky Yank guy's rocky/country style ballad stuff with the uber quirky lyrics? I've never found out but I guess she knew the guy and was asked to guest on the backing vocals. 1
Soundscape Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 She was diagnosed with MS about 5 yrs ago. And cancer a few years later. That's pretty f##ked up. A very tough break on Chrissie and her family RIP girl

Guest Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Ohh the stockings - much love and lust for a wonderful performer who owned being a women
The Fez Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Sad day for the Australian Rock fraternity..Thoughts go out to Chrissy, her family and friends at this very sad time. She was a brilliant talent, and a super performer, that gave it everything. I don't think the term Rock Legend is out of place here.. I never got to see the Divinyls, I did see her play Judy Garland in "The Boy from Oz"...My wife is a huge Chrissy & Divinyls fan, and I think has met her once in Melbourne after a gig. She is going to be heartbroken... VALE - Christina Joy Amphlett

lencolad Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Mick Jagger's lost sister ? In her book she recounts hitching to Sunbury in a bikini, t-shirt, and thongs and no money - relying on luck to see her through. So typical of the times ......

lencolad Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 (edited) Don't recall which Sunbury but she was still at school IIRC. If it was Sunbury 75 she'd be 16-ish. Anyone out there have her book ? Edited April 22, 2013 by lencolad
LogicprObe Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Don't recall which Sunbury but she was still at school IIRC. Anyone out there have her book ? nah.........the local library has a couple....................but I wasn't allowed to go to the first one aged 15...........and I'm a few years older than her (actually, I thought she was older than me.)
Phantom Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Oh wow. This is really sad/bad news. Chrissie was without doubt an Oz rock legend and never copied anyone. She was always herself with everything that entailed, energy, inspiration, creativity and an ability to do it her own way. There are many rock chicks but Chrissie had the substance to go with the style and she could never ever be accused of being one dimensional. When I think of all the sad, sick bastards still breathing in this world and we read about the passing of a genuine rock queen,it makes me more than sad......it also makes me angry. Vale Chrissie, you are loved and missed by so many already, especially by both of us in my household. R.I.P and enjoy the next big gig in the sky.
