Half the space half the budget, best I've had!

Featured Replies

Hey guys and gals, I've a rather modest system comprising of a Parasound HINT V1.0, Audia Flight CD three, PMC DB1i, SVS micro 3k.

In terms of equipment alone, compared to what I've owned over the years its probably one of the more "budget" systems I've had.

However in terms of SQ, it has got to be up there with the very best or even THE best I've had to date!

I've spent some coin in the past but hell, there really is something to be said about room treatment!!

As of now I won't even bother with HIFI  unless I've done some kind of room mod/treatment first.

Proof here that it is absolutely imperative to take into account.

Still more to come, learning every day😊

Cheers!

Still blows me away how many people refuse to consider acoustic treatment - its the biggest improvement one can make!

Great system - well done!

Thanks mate, yeah I dabbled in treatment few years back but really only dipped my toes in.. I still have more work to do but the difference in performance to the speaker, particularly the ATL in these PMCs is nothing short of magic.

Very happy customer here, I think so many people on here could transform their systems like I have with very little $$ by comparison.

I guess it's all relative, but I would call that setup a 'sweet spot' system rather than a 'budget' system.

i.e.  Equipment that is not silly prices but does cost a bit more than budget gear, provides exceptionally good performance for it's price, and after which the law of diminishing returns kicks in hard.

Choosing that type of equipment is a skill often honed during the period of our lives when mortgages and children dictate spending habits!

And as you have found, sweet spot equipment with room treatment can certainly give more joy than 'high-end' equipment without treatments.

Happy listening.

Absolutely correct mate, you have certainly worded it better than I did!

I look forward to playing around some more with the room and concentrate more on that for now than the gear in it!

Cheers!

Absolutely agree, although my wife doesn't listen to the music she should realise you need treatment. And that looks fabulous. Maybe i could pass on her number to you and you  could have a chat with her.😀

On a more serious note the room looks great and more proof that higher prices are often about marketing versus performance.

Nice system @russell66,

Another observation on your well matched and set up system, is the rewards of near field listening. Which you appear very close to that kind of setup.

You appear to be reaping the rewards of hearing the speakers in a very un-diluted fashion which can be very rewarding Imo.

I have my system in a small room with quite bit of treatment, similar in a fashion. I have speakers which can excite the room a bit more which can be a challenge, but yours would be better in this respect.
