Excessive Advertising

Featured Replies

Excessive advertising, I know websites/forums rely on advertising dollars to survive but when does it become a detriment to the user experience, advertising within topics now, what’s next?

Edit: please note I didn’t create this topic, I added the comment above to the “What cheeses you off” topic.

Assuming you're referring to StereoNET - and disappointed to read this comment.

This is not new. In fact, it's been in place for about two years (maybe more).

At least they are relevant ads, and we're not running "re-marketing" showing Life Insurance or any other weird and exotic item someone has looked at on Aliexpress.

But yes, the advertising is 100% what allows us to provide this website at no charge to its readers. It plays an important role within the industry promoting hi-fi and supporting a wide industry, and directly and indirectly employs quite a number of people.

I don't personally think the advertising is excessive. There are some sites, particularly hi-fi ones, that have obtrusive roadblock type ads, or worse, looks like a Vegas Billboard strip. With the commercial realities of this site in mind, I have always kept the user experience in mind.

You could always pay for an e or physical magazine and get all the same ads.

The advertising here is far from excessive and the site needs to be funded by some means. I welcome your suggestions for a solution.

We have the facility to entirely disable site access to the 23.1% of users we have detected using such scripts here. To date, I haven't wanted to implement it. Showing users unobtrusive, on-topic ads is all we ask in return for using this resource.

Bait taken. Was just prodding the bear 😉 (one sec I'll check the ad[s] Amphion at the top and Yamaha at the bottom.

But Duck Duck is blocking any and all FB links and I'm not changing that.

*Edit: how do you think I bought my Charios? From Tivoli's ad of course. Oh, and that blokes review.
