metal beat Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 (edited) Man, who has seen the Coles ad with Status Quo playing big red pointing Coles hand guitars singing ova and ova " prices are down ". An entire song was just played during masterchef. Oh my god, talk about sell out. Trouble is in principle I want to despise it, however for some reason. I think I like it! comfortablynumb Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Better than some no talent rap artist or some Johnny come lately like bieber !!!!
comfortablynumb Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Another point.......many people would have no idea who they are. Just a bunch of "old people" playing guitars.
Al Leece Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Well, Quo sold out when they finally got sick of three gold chords and delved into reels and jigs. But as for the ad' it is very clever marketing on Coles' behalf - covering all the bases and even having a dig at the knockers of the original "down down" ad's. For Quo, though, it is a money making gig, possibly even a dig aimed at former band member(s) who moved to Oz rather than head down the reels and jigs road. Possibly.
kunalraiker Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 The AD is simply there to beat.....Monday, Tuesday,Wednesday........................I Love YOU
MrHorsepower Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 (edited) Also far better than Normie Rowe's effort. Edited July 25, 2012 by MrHorsepower
Probbo Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Whatever you want, whatever you like Whatever you say, you pay your money You take your choice, whatever you need Whatever you use, whatever you win, whatever you lose 1
Gruffnutz Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Can't pay farmers, suppliers or employees properly... ...can pay heaps to English has-beens. Gotta love Aussie big business. Can't wait for the Bay City Rollers Qantas ad... 7
progladyte Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Better than some no talent rap artist or some Johnny come lately like bieber !!!! Is this an opportunity to take the piss out of Justine's Beaver? Where do I start?
quadrodude Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 (edited) I was shopping at my local Coles and they had this song playing on a loop for ages...I had to get the hell out of there before I went totally insane... Edited July 26, 2012 by quadrodude
emesbee Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 I actually sort of liked that song when Status Quo released it in the 70s. Don't think I could stand playing it these days. I do still play 'Pictures of Matchstick Men' from time to time though. Much better. I've seen the video. Wasn't sure that it was actually Status Quo for real, at first. Don't mind the video, but can't stand the big red hands.
Grumpy Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 I don't have a problem with them 'selling out' . Music selling is the business most artists are in anyway. Same as hearing an old great track in a movie; enjoy it ! 1
progladyte Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 I think I saw Rick Parfitt and Francis Rossi in there somewhere but I can't remember which one had the pony tail. I think it was F.R.

Hergest Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 I've been a lifelong Quo fan ever since Piledriver in my first year at grammar school in 1973. I've never minded the covers and endless hits compilations as those were nearly always contractual obligations and now and then they can still turn out a very good album. Their latest, Quid Pro Quo from last year is an excellent album.
emesbee Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Pictures of Matchstick Men is the only Status Quo song that gets a spin at my place these days.
Chewbacker Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Ha Never realised it was the Quo men doin the add
Orpheus Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 I had not heard the ad, however, I found the song; Enjoyable, but very, very boring lyrics. Shame that shopping at Coles is so soul-destroying. 1

Shame that shopping at Coles is so soul-destroying. Considering Rick, Francis and Andy are at least 110 years old per man and Rick and Francis have sniffed a b-double weight of coke over the years they don't half look good.
Two Flies Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 They probably thought why not Coles is already covering it in a poxy poppy jingle style and only paying a minimal royalty .
caddisgeek Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 I really don't know what to make of all of this. It has to be one of most bizarre ads of all time (particularly if view out of context) 1
