I do intend to :(

Interesting, Mr Mustud.

I've just acquired my first bottle of Ardbeg. I'm very keen to try that, based on earlier recommendation.

The occasion awaits.

Drink in the evening, maybe with 10-15%volume tap temp water.

Go from that.

A nice espresso on the side.

Let us know how you go!

Description inclues 'peaty'.... ow noes :(

A teensy bit of peat is important even in the most "afternoonish" whisky. I do not class HP as peaty. Certainly not one of your bikie tatooed Laphroigs. Glad to see you are enjoying your whiskies.

cheers :( ...

Actually it is a little bit peaty. Maybe just sufficiently subdued to set you wandering down that road...

My all time favourite, Lagavulin.

No ice or water please....

I'm just wondering what you are all using for your tasting glasses.

I've always used the traditional straight sided heavy based tumbler but I'm seeing the point of these:

Glencairn Whisky Glass

Is anybody using these? Any thoughts in the matter?

If not these, what are you all using?

I'm currently giving serious consideration to picking up a mug with a teddy bear on the front for my whisky habit...

Had a glass of Laphroaig last night. My first single malt. It was very smooth, clean with an obvious raw tobacco taste.

I have recently gone back to Laphroaig. Very much enjoying it. Tastes and preferences shift and shift again over time.

Purchased my first bottle of whisky ever, looking forward to getting a couple more to compare

Well the Glen Moray was ok. Lacked personality IMO. Might have to try something a bit more adventurous. Any tips apart from Laphroaig (which is on my short list already)?

Highland Park woul be a good one.

Lots of personality without being too extreme.

Also very good value.

I have some Highland Park not opened yet, have to finish whatever is open first. Midnight and 25C is not really whisky weather.

Highland Park does not have as high a profile as some of the whiskies in Australia, however it is very much top shelf.

Shhh...let's keep that info to ourselves.

Highland Park, eh?

Your little secret is out, Colonel.

Has anyone here had experience with Sullivan's Cove?

By coincidence I was walking passed http://www.oakbarrel.com.au/ a few months ago and they were having tasting session, yep whisky from http://www.tasmaniadistillery.com/ , who produce, No create!, Sullivans Cove product.

I gladly sampled three of their product. The 60 proof was fantastic, a bit of bite and pepper on the tongue and long long satisfying finish. Prob worth it's asking price but I settled on the Sullivans Cove ‘Double Cask’ Single Malt Whisky – 40% av and for $110 worth every cent. I've got half bottle left (correction, less than) and don't want it to finish.

Great accompaniment to;

Mark Knopfler-Kill To Get Crimson,

or Bruce Springsteen - Nebraska

or Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds-The Boatman's Call

I think you get my drift...
