CSR MARTINI ABSORB XHD - Melbourne

Featured Replies

got an update on the MARTINI ABSORB XHD   50mm white

When i called back the south yarra store they mentioned that the min order is 4 bags not 3 bags they said some recent change to their min orders.

based on the response so far 4 bags is too much for me to hold on to.

so i called a few other places, another also confirmed 4 bags but another place the one in coburg mentioned they just get 1 bag.  Don't understand why they can do this and other can't ?

their cost is $250 plus another $110 for delivery.

So i'm probably going to go through them and get one bag. Initially i'll probably just use 1 or 2 pieces so will still have some 4 or 5 pieces spare.

so cost will be $60 per sheet and pickup location will be bentleigh.

Let me know if your still interested.

based on this I'll just take 2 if possible, as I know there are others already spoken for

@blybo Where abouts are you in Melbourne Neil? I will consider picking it up and dropping it to you depending on where you are.

There are 6 sheets in a bag, so if you actually want 3, des35swim wants 2 and I have 1 we are fully subscribed for one bag.

I'm in Mitcham and I've decided 2 sheets will do me for now.

So, where are we with this? I’m still interested in three sheets. If we can buy one bag at a time does anyone want to split a bag of six? I won’t be able to fit a bag in my car so would be reliant on someone else being able to pick up from the seller in Coburg.

Where abouts are you @gat474?

People interested are:

Blybo 2,

des35swim 2

gat474 3

Me 1

To make up a bag of 6, and including des35swim as he knows where the supplier is and kicked this buy off, it would be des25swim, me and gat474, with Blybo missing out ?

Can you live with that Blybo?

Alternatively if gat474 is OK with 2, then I can wait until another time.

Michael

I’m in Moonee Ponds and would do two if that’s what’s available.

Ok - I'm happy to wait so you three can go ahead with a shared pack and I'll be a backup for 1 sheet if needed.

sorry for the slow response.

i've placed the order for one bag a couple of days ago.

They just called me to say it should arrive in their coburg store tomorrow but may not be able to get it out to me till wed next week depending what time it arrives.

they said it first goes to ringwood i think he said or out that area.

i told him i'm pretty keen to get it before the weekend so worst case  i might hire a trailer and pick it up direct from ringwood, cause it won't fit in my suv.

I'll probably just use 1 piece initially.  so will most likely have 5 spares for those who want to take them off my hand.  I might want to buy some more down the track not sure yet.

The contact for the place i ordered it from is:  9386 1882

Still happy to grab one from Bentleigh. Thanks for making it happen @des35swim

Autex make their own version that looks identical on paper but in reality they are not the same. Their AAB has a texture on the surface (not as appealing in my opinion), they are slightly thicker and a little lower in density. They also tend to flex more. This means it's much more difficult to get neat cuts.

When you place an order, make sure they are sending the correct version. Nothing worse than having HD panels show up when you ordered XHD. It happens.

I generally recommend the black XHD 50mm as it's the most universal. Many people are tempted by the thicker panels but the properties are such that you very often get the best results with an air gap behind the 50mm. This works for general purpose absorbers and bass traps.

Cutting is the biggest challenge. Yet another reason to go for the XHD 50mm. Lower density is harder to cut. Thicker is even more difficult and in many situations inferior in performance, when you factor in the air gap and frequency range targeted.

You can use an insulation handsaw and it will get the job done but you have two problems. One, the saw is blunt after just a few metres of cutting. Two, the cuts aren't vertically square. Even if you knock up a jig to keep the cuts square (vertically), the cuts are messy.

I use a purpose built cutting setup and it took a lot of trial and error to get it working properly. It's more trouble than it's worth for just a few sheets, but it's the only way to get cuts that you don't need to hide. I've seen some cuts that couldn't be fixed by putting the panel inside a timber frame with fabric over the whole thing.

^cutting is one reason I prefer layers of 25mm (that and you can add membranes).

@PeterWM achieved beautiful results with 25mm and a big pair of tailoring scissors.

If you're going to put it in panels and cover in fabric, save the pain and use Ultratel.

I did the same. The 50mm sheets are a pain to work with if you don’t have specialised tools. I’ve put my corner bass traps together from a stack of 25mm sheets.

I received it this morning.  One bag of the  MARTINI ABSORB XHD   50mm white

I'll have some spare sheets so for those that want a sheet send me a direct message with your contact number.
