betty boop
a recent release on Blu-ray I picked up locally .. A true story, set in post end of the soviet era... Putin had only been in the job a month...so not a war movie more of a disaster involving one of russian nuclear subs that was out on a training run and disaster struck. It is a tragic tale, but told absolutely beautifully. Excellent acting, lovely photography and wonderful the way sound and music is used to support. there are indeed some magnificent audio events visually it starts off very curiously... with an aspect ratio more akin to 4:3 which had me scrambling around thinking i had hit a button on my projector or players remote or something. was about so close to fire my 2nd player up. even rebooted source and preamp incase something had glitched... but interestingly as soon as we are past initial parts of story and the sub submerges itself in the sea... the aspect ration opens up... as if ... this is where the main feature starts... While English language... I wish it was russian language with english subtitles... but atleast accents of actors is authentic enough to hold movie together... As a story it is as much about the folk in the submarine as those left behind... Id put in class of recommended...check out if can... some screen shots from the film,

Guest deanB
Putin was reportedly not happy about the recent Chernobyl mini series. He has talked about making a Russian version that will explain the CIA's role in the disaster. I doubt he will be approving of this movie either. Authoritarians can be enormously difficult to please. betty boop
thats one of the things about the movie is how well manages the emotions... the way ebbs and flows and also use of audio at opportune moments is excellent really

I had exactly the same experience - I rebooted the Oppo, checked the TV, rebooted the Oppo yet again, checked for a firmware update and then all of a sudden it was all “fixed” - I really should not be permitted to interface with technology......... ‘’Other than my technical shortcomings in the aspect ratio comprehension stakes, a great movie I thoroughly enjoyed - living proof that there is room onboard a submarine for everything.......except a mistake. Mobe1969
On submarine movies, anyone seen Black Sea? It isn't a military one, but it is pretty impressive, story and sound wise. Some great performances too!

Furious and prolonged fighting is exhausting both the Soviet and the fascist troops. The more decisive the advance of the Soviet army, the more often White Tiger, a huge, indestructible fascist tank, appears in the battlefield. It relentlessly emerges from the smoke of combat, ruthlessly destroys the adversary and swiftly vanishes. No one can either verify or refute its existence. However, the Soviet military command decides to build an extraordinary tank – a special version of the T-34. The pursuit of the mystic monster begins... >
