Roh enz Posted September 16, 2019 Posted September 16, 2019 Hi guys Anyone has experience with problem of 2 subs (L+R) cancelling each other? Current setting is both on 0° degree phase and only - 0.5 different of volume The sub is PB13 ultra and pb12 plus. What settings should i play with to fix the issue? I'm sure changing the phase would do the work but not sure wat nominal should i set for the L and the R subs Or maybe the distance settings? If anyone has some tips for tis, pls help me, thxs
hopefullguy Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 i always thought with duel subs one is set at "0" the other at "180" what avr do you have? can your auto EQ even set up 2 subs? you can try moving one to the back of the room. so 1x front and 1x rear, it is a preferred set up by readings and actual use.
Roh enz Posted September 17, 2019 Author Posted September 17, 2019 I use yamaha 3083, it has separate EQ for each sub and also has these options: Left n right Front and rear Mono I have tried 0° and 180° on the othrr one, better but still not quite right. Maybe i shoud move the other sub at the back, like u said. But behind sofa would be very close to listening position, like 1 metre away or less...
Demondes Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 Hmm, i have 2 REL subs. Never considered setting then out of phase by 180deg, as they both are connected to a separate high level stereo channel (as per standard REL design). In your case i would try moving the sub around eg in and out of the corners, and making them asymmetrical (pull one further forward to see if the issue goes away) 1
Guest Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 Ideally, you should be measuring the room to understand its accoustics signature and then measure the impact of a sub at various locations to find some better positions. In the absence of that, suggest reading this and experiment https://www.aperionaudio.com/blogs/aperion-audio-blog/dual-subwoofer-placement-for-your-home A position missing from article is front and back. Also, set Yamaha sub option to mono...
Dean Gale Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 Move one or the other do they aren't equidistant ftom back and sidewalls .
hopefullguy Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 nothing wrong 1m behind couch. try it also note the ypao, from my readings anyway, up until the 3085 was not so good. i think audioholics suggest it cant eq below 30hz.

Hi, are these actually L + R or are they two mono subs? If they were completely cancelling each other out then you wouldn't hear anything from either, I presume this is not the case. So how do you know what frequencies and by how much are they cancelling each other out?
Dean Gale Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 You may have a room mode of 50 to 70 Hz and multiples thereafter and not really phase issues of the sub themselves . Can you give us room dimensions , and say a pic of a drawing of the room with the layout

Really?! Tats not good, i should test it manually to find out

Yes, not as i couldn't hear anything but more like there is a big drop in impact n LFE effect I only measure by ears n feel, when i turn on both subs, the bass n impact suddenly become much lesser compare to just 1 sub on

Roh enz Posted September 18, 2019 Author Posted September 18, 2019 i have found the culprit, it's the amp itself. When i turn off the sub 2 from the amp setting, the sub 1 performs amazingly. So wat i did was isolate the problem n tried daisy chain to sub 2 to see if tat would make any different and guess wat? boom! I got the same effect now. It seems if i turn on both subs 1&2 from amp settings, the signal might be distributed half n half or maybe some thing to do with the EQ n phase tat YPAO calculate. I don't know but for the time being, i stick with daisy chain.
