G'day all, I've really enjoyed the sharing and looking through all the posts here, having a gander at everyone's set-up/systems. So rather than be a lurker, I thought it best to slam up a pic as well. This is my favourite seat in the whole house, even better than the dinner table, it's where I like to unwind after work. Regarding the setup, all advice and critique gladly taken on-board. Cheers Trevor

Looks great, Trevor. Can you tell us what the components are?

Hi Trevor. Looks great!

The 4 speakers have me confused though, are they driven at the same time? I am assuming not.

Looks great, love the 4 floorstanders. I bet its loud. I use to run 4 speakers up front from a PA amp and it went very loud.

Agreed! Looks great, more info please!

Can you please straighten the coffee table?

Hi Wolster,

Thanks for the reply, the components are as follows:

Rotel RB-1590 Power Amps x 2. To reduce any crosstalk, I have the two LH XLR outputs from the Pre-Amp going to the LHS  amp. Likewise, the two RH XLR outputs from the Pre-Amp going to the RHS  amp with one power AMP channel driving each speaker via Bi-Wire cables I knocked up in the shed! Does that make sense?

A Rotel RC-1590 Pre-Amp is perched ontop of an Oppo UDP-205 UHD Blu-Ray player. The floorstanding speakers are Klipsch RF-280 x 4, A Samsung UA55H7000 TV sits in the middle of it all. I use a small DELL PC, with J River to deliver file-based music to the Rotel RC-1590 Pre-Amp.

Thats about it I reckon...

Hi DarkNark,

It might be a little weird, but all four are driven  ... gotta get those SPL's up!

Hope this helps ...

The two Amps are not MONOBLOC, they are standard Stereo, R+L channels ...

To reduce any crosstalk, I have the two LH XLR outputs from the Pre-Amp going to the XLR Inputs on the LHS  amp. Likewise, the two RH XLR outputs from the Pre-Amp going to the RHS  amp  ....  with one power AMP channel driving each speaker of the pair.

i.e. LH Amp drives both LH speakers = RHS AMP channel drives the RH one of the pair + LHS AMP channel drives the LH one of the pair, thus cutting out any speaker wires crossing over each other in the setup .. I may have tied myself in knots here with the explaination, but the cabling is not in knots though!!

Regs,

Hey Tony,

Yep it can go loud! but that's not primarily what I was after, as they say power is control. It fills the room in a relaxed way without the need to drive everthing hard to get SPL.

Cheers,

Nice set up?

I have a pr of RF-280's and they are great on my home theatre rig. Are you planning on this system being purely 2 ch or expanding to a home theatre set up?

G'day Mr Vader,

Thanks for the thumbs up,

I plan to enjoy this setup, as a two Ch system for now. When Klipsch release the RF-7 III's here in Oz (and the wallet will allow), I'd like to grab a pair and use this hardware to drive them as a ballsy 2 channel Audio setup. I would then use the 4 x RF-280's as part of a home theatre rig. That's the plan at the moment.

Good plan. The RF-7's are very nice. Would make a killer HT system with the RF-280's as rears.

I recently purchased a pair of R-112 subs and an RP-450 centre. Along with RP-160 on rear duties it sounds pretty good.

The R-112's fill in the bottom end and do it very fast with good punch. They have more combined power than a lot of 18" single subs and fit better with decor. Being a pair they also compliment the mains when on occasional 2 ch duties.

I'm impressed with the RP-450 centre also. It has a big foot print and is very clear and detailed.

I will admit the Klipsch may not be as good as other pure 2ch speakers they do a really good job on HT stuff. They have a good synergy and all work together well.

I'm only using an Integra HTR with no external amplification, although the unit does allow for this. I'd like to get an Electra multi channel amp when the budget allows. The Integra can handle Dolby Atmos (with extra amplification for 9.2.4) but in reality, I'm more than happy with 7.2.2 for now. Dolby atmos titles are limited at this point.

My space is awkward too. I have no room for crooked tables

Gooday Trevor.

Can't get my head around the four speakers. So, you are running two sets of Stereo, is that right? Your more after the DB's then stereo soundstage I presume?

Hi Wimbo, not just after dB's / SPL, at the expense of imaging here. Yes, the setup is a little out of the ordinary and might I say it works a treat. My ears tell me there is no imaging loss with 4 speakers compared to 2 only, I've messed around and tried both setups.

Your HT system spec sound great, that pair of Klipsch 12" Subs have me drooling I must fess. I get the choice of two 12" subs compared to one 15" or 18", much better idea. Regarding my errant coffee table, it fits coz apart from the speaker symmetry in the room, all else is skewed! ?

The R-112 subs unfortunately dont have a speaker level input, you'd have to take a line out from the pre to use them. Not sure if your Rotel could drive them. Maybe some minds that know more could chime in.

Its worth the homework though.

The subs do fill in the bottom end blanks that the RP-280's dont hit. I've heard the RP-7's and I cant say if the same is true for them.

Most music does not have explosions and buildings crashing down which is where subs shine, so if your not all that keen on HT stuff, the subs may be not all that useful.

Interesting setup.  Very unusual which will make a few of us think outside the box.

nice work.

Thanks for your open mind on this. Hell I reckon, life is one big experiment anyway .... Cheers!

That looks amazing. I have something similar here in the states. I will definitely have to invest in a decent enough stereo system when I get to Sydney but I have also been looking at different furniture options because as far as I understand I will be moving into an empty space and everything will be mine there (aside from the kitchen appliances that is). I have been looking online for different options but what I had in mind and what I actually liked was sort of like a sofa/day-bed that I found over here: https://nyfurnitureoutlets.com/living-room-furniture/sofas-and-sectionals/filter-turquoise. I know that it might seem kind of strange but I do like the color and honesty I feel like it would give the space the necessary pop that it might miss otherwise. I think that it will look amazing. Wish me luck
