Nice to see your changes over years in your room ,  I remember comfortably cruising along to nice tunes  at your office system there some years ago 🤙, enjoy.

Man time flies….

I must admit , those 6c33 Tubes are just lovely ☺️ as is the view out of the rear window 👍 tranquility…

Happy days V

  • Changed things around a bit. I am now running vinyl in that room via some very early Supratek preamps with a wonderful sounding phono stage. Turntable is a Technics SP10 in a curly jarrah "Thomo"

  • My latest purchase is a new Bakoon Satri AMP -5521. The 50 watt monoblocks had to be returned to their owner and I missed them too much.As a friend said you can't unhear that sound and nothing el

  • And now for something completely different- Dynaudio Confidence C5s  in  nice Rosewood veneer.Their flagship speakers of the era. They cost $16000 back then.Esotar tweeters and dome midranges.Thes

I guess you could say it is not ultra high resolution. In a good way!

That's just the way i like it.

I agree.

There's only so much Diana Krall and Norah Jones one can listen to!

You can get worse. At least their recordings are relatively natural sounding.Patricia Barber recordings  I really struggle with because they are  too manipulated/processed /boosted bass etc. Some of the Jennifer Warnes stuff too.

Why I like live recordings .They tend to avoid excessive studio over production.

Patricia Barber  can really shine and  or highlight shortcomings ,

just good for testing.

A truely fab live recording for great voice and more so the drum kits is

Alicia Keys live in San Paulo ,

one I often come back to for that real Live Wow 😮 Sensation.

Ultra high resolution is not a sound, it's a fidelity.

Strictly speaking yes that is true. However within the audio system context it also can be used to describe a type of sound relative to something else. One of the main characteristics is that such a system tends  to be unforgiving of all but really good recordings.

Hi Thomo,

I would much strongly suggest and prefer that you use other words to describe what you mean, and not use words that are synonymous with fidelity to mean anything other than fidelity.

I guess it depends on how you define fidelity.I have some Class D amps here that measure extremely well and give a highly detailed sound so are high fidelity /high resolution in that respect. But they also fail to convey musical information like rhythmical  information and sound musically disjointed .So for example swing music has no swing .So in that respect they are very low fidelity .

Generalising , modern High fidelity  =  low musicality …..the trend in speakers…… ,

sad reality but maybe I am one of the fussiest audio ensuisiast out there.

High resolution on suitable program via well expected horns is another matter.

Funny , just received a top of range OLED LG G5 TV  - low power outages damage / insurance replacement .  Well , lots to pick at compared to the old top of line Plasma TV .

Can’t wait to hear the Alec 19’s we just lugged.

Well , hopefully by tonight for some LO FI Tunes on 211 Tubes , at least the logistics are done.

what a pick up in the pick up.

Well those Altec 19 only lasted a few hours before a new home took them away again for their office duties.

Had a listen 🥴 💩 , five minutes later opened them up to find what’s going on , different Altec bass drivers sadly killed the show.

That is a shame.

Looks like the bass driver on the right has a case of surround clotting. That will sound restricted and may compromise the voice coil.

What were the model numbers of the two bass drivers?

You are right ,  agree a real shame ….however for a reason

RHS  Altec  was std 416 driver , shows excess black over doped goober to its surround which migrated downwards over the years adding unbalanced mass and hence micro voice coil rubbing , it’s suspension was totally flogged out like a floppy set of grannies boobs without a bra.

LHS had  Altec 411 driver , it looked near new, nicer bass and overall sound integration-but approx 4db down in output compared to the floppy meister Altec 416 in the  RHS .

I know the new owner , stored in his office for appearance duties only atm , they shall receive the needed replacement drivers etc in time I am told so that’s really good news.

But believe Jon’s Big 15’ Tannoys  be favourable sounding at the end of the day.
