My evaluation was on the c11 which is what lonewolf has said he is selling here. I thought might be relevant to anyone considering. there are also owners threads on Avs on the 11, 11a and 12 all worth a read for potential buyers :)

My Cinema 11a has been upgraded to the latest firmware and been upgraded to HDMI v1.4, that seems to work beautifully except for some signal locking type issues where it takes a couple of seconds sometimes. The Cinema 11 has the latest firmware for it but there was no HDMI v1.4 upgrades available for it. Since its in the box and i never opened it, I cant tell you how it compares to the 11a.

Then again from what i hear from people, even the mainstream brands have had HDMI issues which surprised me as i thought yamaha, onkyo and denon were far passed those kinds of niggling issues.

Yes, but a new Integra would only be a little bit more.

Ide have no clue there Chops ; 800 for the audyssey ; and I havent seen a price for lonewolfs cinema 11 in this thread yet :phone: I suspect he would be keen to sell .

Talking about vision performance ; Do you really need 4k upscaling mate the oppo can do that ..

cwt - I like your thinking, the Cinema 11 and an Audyssey SEQ would make a fantastic double! I reckon that works for Lonewolf and myself too.

From Post 1

Item: Cary Cinema 11a Surround Processor

Location: Sydney

Item Condition:Excellent 9/10 (Still with Retailer)

Reason for selling:Too Many Preamps

Price: $3500?

= $4300 with the Audyssey

I'm pretty sure I could wrangle an Integra 80.3 for less and have a 3 year warranty. .... the 2 HDMI ports on the Cary are annoying, but I guess with the Audyssey it actually leaves one spare! LOL!

I was wondering where the 1000 or more went mate ; as I differentiated between the 11 and 11a earlier [helps to be on the same page lol ] one doesnt have hdmi inputs and the other 11a does with lossless decoders . That 3500 wasnt for the 11 it was for the 11a that lonewolf is now using ...

As I traded up from a 11 to an 11a myself wont speculate how much lonewolf wants for the 11- thats his call but it looks like a bargain if you use analog with lucmors SEQ..

I have both Carys at home but i never got around to opening up the Cary Cinema 11, so its still in its box. I was going to use it in a second system but i never got around to it. Plus i have soo many processors and video processors, power amps, subs, speakers etc, i figured whatever i dont sell i can easily put into a 2nd and third system if needs be.

I am currently using the Cary Cinema 11a and will not be selling it / parting with it unless i can come across another that is better.. I dont think there are many that fit that profile, The other option is i may have to take a hit sound quality wise and take a step down but might clear up some space and make things easier in my system for others to use. As at the moment in my primary system I have 3 power amps, a video processor, Audyssey unit, 2 behringer splitters for my 12 subs, Cary Cinema, SVS AS-EQ1 for the subs. And thats before the sources. If I went back to a Onkyo AVR, hahaha, that cuts out the amps, VP, audyssey, SVS and Processor. My rack will look so empty, of course the performance will drop massively but i suppose a Processor that has most of those features and just a 7 channel power amp will be alright. I just dont know if i can go that far backwards in sound Quality though.

Btw I notice there seems to be some hate for the Carys here, I had heard about that and experienced some of it when i was initially considering purchasing the Carys (where people were trying to discourage me via the threads and even PMS from not buying them) but i notice it is still going on. I know talking to a couple of people that they had some bad experiences with other forum members when it came to Cary discussions etc.

I think Cary could have done some things differently, especially with bringing out firmware quicker or having HD codecs etc sooner but i think they were coming from a 2ch background and were far more concerned initially with getting SQ right before the featureset. Which some prefer but others just purely prefer featureset or convenience of all in one and thats why Onkyos, Denons, Yamahas keep bringing out new models every 6 months to a year.

But i doubt i will ever believe an AVR provides similar or better sound than the Cary at least not from my experience. I have had Onkyos, Yamahas, Denons and Marantz AVRs in my system as well as Rotel and NAD processors. Only the NAD was even on the same page, the others were left far far behind in terms of sound quality (am talking about Home Theatre here). In terms of features, I thought the Onkyo was the best, but of course it depends on the models of each AVR you have.

Yep, Nup, that price comes of page one and I have a fully hdmi setup ATM so the 11 would not suit at all.

And according to page one:

Extra Info: It is still with Retailer in store boxed up, been used for less than 20 hours as a demo model i believe. I was told condition is pretty much New and has full warranty on it. I havent even gotten to use it yet.

So I don't know what is in his current system.

Yeah mate nothings changed from when lonewolf posted this ;

The Cary Cinema 11a is being used by me now and so not being offered for sale. I havent really decided if i am going to use the Cary Cinema 11 yet in a 2nd system or not, its still in the box not being used at the moment

Had a thought that a brand new oppo 105s balanced outs feeding the carys xlr analog 2ch and multi analog inputs with the SEQ would avoid all that crappy hdmi jitter . Not to mention the oppo's hdmi inputs make the 11 a virtual 11a when you consider the whole system :) If I didnt have a 95 and waiting for another component Ide have it

Read post 1 at the bottom - things musta changed

Mmm got all that before mate ;didnt take long to skim 3 pages with all the bumps

The Cary's are withdrawn from sale at the moment. The NAD M15 and the Rotel RSP 1066 are still available.

Bradp : When you say it did not cost much, are we talking a couple of hundred or more? I really should get these issues fixed up as i think the situation is nowhere near ideal at the moment. I believe i am using up about... 52 power sockets (through a lot of power boards) all coming from 2 power sockets in the room...... The powerboards are decent power boards i am using with surge protection etc but still the idea that its all coming from 2 power sockets is really .....scary.

Guys as you can see there were 2 posts i made back on the first page nov 2010 and march 2011 where i clearly state that the carys are first withdrawn from sale and in the 2nd post i go on to say that the Cinema 11a is now being used by me. I was not able to edit the first post after a certain period of time has surpassed.

Rotel RSP 1066 - 350$

Nad M15 - 1800$

Cary Cinema 11 - 1500$

= $4300 with the Audyssey

I'm pretty sure I could wrangle an Integra 80.3 for less and have a 3 year warranty. ...

Definitely cheaper, 80.3 is at the $2.8k price point. I have one, I don't like it. The Cary/Audyssey combo price is substantially discounted on new price, and if I had the choice I'd cough up the extra $1.5k for it over the 80.3.

So if Lonewolf's Cary is for sale at $1500 (if I read it right) then you can get the Cary/Audyssey SEQ and Pro kit for $2300 - that's an impressive combination for the price.

may I ask why mate..............

For a whole host of reasons....many of course due to my own lack of understanding of the full capability of the 80.3....but ultimately it just doesn't sound anywhere near as good as what I "upgraded" from.

PM Chopsus, he will take it off your hands

Thats what i am afraid of if i ever decide to go back to a onkyo or a denon.. I am worried that the drop in SQ may be too noticeable for me. What did you drop down from?
