hazzad Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 I have the chance to buy a wii with a wiikey2 for what i would consider a decent price but am trying to decide whether the hard mod or the softmod route is best. Id like to be able to use USB Loader to store games on an external hdd to play. Can this be done using the wiikey2? IS there any disadvantage to using a wiikey2 or any hard mod over a softmod or viceversa? Ive also read that the softmods need updating as new games come out. Is this a tedious process or something that only gets done every once in a while.

darent74 Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 only benefit now that i see with getting it chipped is it allows you to play and use burnt games, (ie a friend loaned you a burnt game) Apart from that, softmod can do all and more. easy

djOS Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 In answer to my own question - YES!!! Wii Softmodding for Dummies
hazzad Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Can anyone confirm if you can install USB Loader on a wiikey2 modded unit? I assum eyou need to install the homebrew channel to do this first. Would this cause issues?

bainf Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 There is a site called www.wiisave.com where you can upload or download completed save files.
DansDans Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I think it might be well worth mentioning to everyone that since doing the bannerbomb on my Wii (about a month ago) I have had the following problems/issues with my Wii console * Frequently it wont turn on if you press the power button on the Wiimote * Sometimes it wont turn off if you press the power button on the Wiimote * Sometimes it hangs on the Health Warning screen * Sometimes the DVD will keep spinning in the system when the machine is in standby (orange light) * Wiimotes can de-sync * The reset button doesnt seem to work that often Also, with the softmod, you cant launch games via the Disc Channel. You have to (well I have to) use the 002 Gamma Fix channel. This means that those little reports you get in your daily messages wont list the name of the games you've been playing
djOS Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 (edited) I've had none of these issues in the last week since doing mine and im now playing all my Wii games from my external 120GB HDD. imo, as long as you use a well developed package with good instructions you'll be fine. I have had issues with Wii "hanging", these all related to backup cheap or scratched media, I always recommend verbatim DVD-R, never let me down Follow dJOS advice for sure

diesel Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Just watched a review of Wii Sports Resort on Good Game and they pretty much panned it. 4.5 and 5 out of 10. Seems the use of the Wii Motionplus is good but has much more potential, and the Sports Resort games lack depth and ingenuity. it's a shame, because Wii Sports is a classic party game and I was looking forward to this new release

Just scratching the surface so far but........found the balloon burst game a bit ho-hum, sword fighting was ok along with the bowling game with good control from the new Motion Plus widgets. Dicks Smiths had the best price on this $88 with an extra widget, but were out of stock. BIGW next best with $69 (store special) + $26 for extra widget Edit: Wife and daughter report the archery and table tennis are quite enjoyable Edited July 23, 2009 by dilligafocau
Zagg Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 If you want to check out game reviews use a site like metacritic which will take an aggregate of reviews from other sites. Wii Sports resort has got really positive reviews almost everywhere: http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/...wiisportsresort I bought it with a free motionplus + free charger for $80 from EB when it came out on Wednesday evening; had a play yesterday and I really enjoyed what I played. Loads of games, so if you like the original sports I'd say it's definitely a step up from that. Lots of talk about illegal stuff up there; I didn't think this was the place for it

GraveDilute Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 If you want Sports Resort, head over to the JB Hi Fi site, print off a copy of their excluded titles on their trade in list, then head over to EB or Game, buy 2x $20 Wii titles and trade them in. Buy an extra wii motion controller and you're only looking at $65 for the game + 2 wii motions!

If all the 2nd retailer will do is price match, I'm happier to give my money to the guy that had the lowest price to begin with.
Ryan1503559697 Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I went to get mine from Dick SMith but they were out of stock of the extra motion + so went next door to Toys R Us and gota price match and yeah i love the table tennis too
bainf Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 i bought the accessories for the ea active , band and leg holster $24.95 http://www.game.com.au/ i bought my wiimotions from here $26 at the same time free postage was the key and they arrived in 2 days super value
