Yep, great speakers. I've got the django L which is their entry speaker, but still big in size, with a big natural sound :-)

Thanks. What amplification do you use and have you heard any of their other models?

Vitus preamp with sgr power amps, great combo. Jorma cabling throughout definitely adds to the synergy as marten uses jorma throughout their speakers.

Have heard bird 2s also, sweet speakers with one of the best imaging from floorstanders I've heard, although 4x price of django l.

I'm situated in Wollongong (near Sydney),...guess I'd have to go to Melbourne to hear a demo...I think the Marten dealer is in Melbourne. Do you know if there is a dealer in Sydney, Sir B?

When Stereophile tested the Django XL speakers (they loved them), they measured their sensitivity at 84 -85.

This is considerably below Marten's claim of 89 and represents such a discrepancy that it could actually lead to some very disgruntled customers who thought that they were purchasing some very expensive speakers that were fairly efficient, only to find that they are actually quite inefficient.

Do we, as consumers, have any rights in this regard?

As a couple of members mentioned, I owned a pair of Marten Coltrane Alto's which were large, 3 way stand mount speakers employing a 9" down-firing bass driver, 5" midrange & 1" tweeter. The Alto's were very rare, and very much underrated speakers. They used a sophisticated carbon/sandwich construction monocoque cabinet well before Magico designed the S1 & sounded better than the Magico Q1 in all areas except midrange tonality/emotion. The Alto's smooth, narrow, elyptical-shaped cabinet also allowed them to disappear in the room & throw quite a holographic sound stage.

The Alto's need a lot of power to control them. My Classe Cap 2100 struggled really. They were much happier being fed by my Boulder 1060 with tubes upstream. Ceramic drivers definitely need some tubes in the mix otherwise they can sound a bit cold and hard imho. The Altos had electrostatic-like speed and wonderful tonal purity from its combination of materials, high end crossover & Jorma No1 internal wiring, yet the dynamics of a dynamic speaker. That sums is up well; best of both worlds. That it took the Magico S5's to convince me i'd found something better sais a lot.

you might want to consider this

These look interesting and well made. I am a real fan of RAAL ribbon tweeters, though my main concern with these speakers would be resale value. Then again, I have the same reservations about the Marten Django which is a boat anker.

i dont think you can find any better value speakers out there. the drivers alone are worth over $3k, thats the Accuton with neo motor, RAAL and Audiotech woofer.

Looking at the pricing, I definitely wouldn't question their value on paper. Though it would hurt a bit if you had to later dump them cheaply on the 2nd hand market.

Sorry- I struggled to find something to like about the presentation of the Vapors in that Room at the RMAF( Offsite)

I'd frankly stuck with the Martens

Willco

i have not heard it myself, but many attendees were impressed by them. like any expensive speakers you have to hear them yourself :).

Yep that was the Off Ramp dudes room as well-- ample size room but the speakers were uninspiring--comparing to Martens -which the Poster asked- my comments relate to my observation of the sonics for preference -in this case the Martens would get my vote.

If there is an Aus Vapor Agent you should take a listen-- you may well find them to your liking

Good Listening

Yea - that's Steve Nugent.

Having exchanged emails with the guy he believes detail is where its all at, which leads to a certain type of sound that may not appeal to everyone.

Thanks

Bill
