I'm about to go and do the update now, I'll do a pre and post update PQ inspection on Serenity Andrew.

I resemble that remark 0% and counting  Andrew. ROFL PS. dont forget to be patient, using a 1.5Mbps DSL connection it took mine at least 30mins to get to 30% and around 45mins to complete .

Make Sure DHCP & DNS are both set to "ON" in your Ethernet menu then reboot (if not on) and try again.

Gino Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Very gutsy.. I'd do mine over the internet, but being in a remote area scares me. Especially that my warranty is void as I got the HD-SDI mod done, which mind you cost me $2000 alone, I'd rather not risk it! I can wait for the ISO.

kamma Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 derek, what did you have the ntp server set to? i just got an error message
djOS Posted April 4, 2007 Author Posted April 4, 2007 kamma said: derek, what did you have the ntp server set to?i just got an error message NTP is unimportant as it is just the "network time protocol" which sets the clock using internet time servers. for most folk with a broadband router, all that is required is: Proxy: OFF DHCP: ON DNS: AUTO (on) and that is it - make sure you power-cycle before trying to update as the Toshy will pick up it's IP address etc at Power On.

I definitely feel that there is more detail in dark scenes, and there are quite a few of those in Serenity. I will have a look at a few more of my favourite discs tomorrow and see if I notice any improvement. Andrew.

smcleod Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 Be very wary about doing the update if you have a HDMI/DVI connection as apparently it results in a total loss of picture when trying to watch a movie. The welcome screen and 'no disc' messages appear fine, the problem only appears when trying to access the movie or the menu. I have FW 2.0 and have had no problems with playback but I was looking forward to this upgrade to fix the colour/black crush issues with HDMI-->DVI. Guess I'll have to wait a bit more.

Guess I'll have to wait a bit more. As long as your X/A1 is connected to a HDMI Switch or AVR before connecting to a DVI display then you will not have this issue (current accepted wisdom over at AVS after compiling over 10 pages of upgrade experiences).
