Btw folks, I'm not sure if it is my imagination, but Serenity seemed to look sharper and more 3D after the update - can someone else update their HD-X/A1 and confirm if this is true?

I'm about to go and do the update now, I'll do a pre and post update PQ inspection on Serenity

Andrew.

Why?

andrew and anything hd is bad :D:P

oi! I resemble that remark :P

0% and counting

Andrew.

ROFL :P

PS. dont forget to be patient, using a 1.5Mbps DSL connection it took mine at least 30mins to get to 30% and around 45mins to complete .

kamma, you bringer of bad jojo ...

Server Not Found error on screen and "VUP ERROR 121" on the front of the player

Guess I'll try again

Andrew.

Make Sure DHCP & DNS are both set to "ON" in your Ethernet menu then reboot (if not on) and try again.

yeah DNS being off was the problem.

Currently up to 20% after 30 minutes.

Very gutsy.. I'd do mine over the internet, but being in a remote area scares me. Especially that my warranty is void as I got the HD-SDI mod done, which mind you cost me $2000 alone, I'd rather not risk it! I can wait for the ISO.

how long does it stay on 0 pct for?

About 10mins on mine using a 1.5Mbps ADSL connection - had me worried for a while too!

You know what they say, "Fortune favors the Brave" ..... or is it foolhardy?

Btw, have you folks noticed that the new forum software doesn't seem to combine sequential posts anymore?

derek, what did you have the ntp server set to?

i just got an error message

NTP is unimportant as it is just the "network time protocol" which sets the clock using internet time servers.

for most folk with a broadband router, all that is required is:

Proxy: OFF

DHCP: ON

DNS: AUTO (on)

and that is it - make sure you power-cycle before trying to update as the Toshy will pick up it's IP address etc at Power On.

and the results are in.

update took and hour and a bit on my 3Mb ADSL connection

seems the lip sync/skipping problem with Serenity is fixed :D

As for the PQ, it might have been a placebo effect, but I do think the picture looks a bit better. I definitely feel that there is more detail in dark scenes, and there are quite a few of those in Serenity.

I will have a look at a few more of my favourite discs tomorrow and see if I notice any improvement.

Be very wary about doing the update if you have a HDMI/DVI connection as apparently it results in a total loss of picture when trying to watch a movie. The welcome screen and 'no disc' messages appear fine, the problem only appears when trying to access the movie or the menu.

I have FW 2.0 and have had no problems with playback but I was looking forward to this upgrade to fix the colour/black crush issues with HDMI-->DVI. Guess I'll have to wait a bit more.

As long as your X/A1 is connected to a HDMI Switch or AVR before connecting to a DVI display then you will not have this issue (current accepted wisdom over at AVS after compiling over 10 pages of upgrade experiences).

i have finally got it to start. it took about 30 mins to move to 10pct, i suppose i just have to wait now.

Thats good to hear mate, I had my fingers crossed that your previous aborted attempt hadn't somehow bricked the upgrade mechanism in your A1.
