As long as your X/A1 is connected to a HDMI Switch or AVR before connecting to a DVI display then you will not have this issue (current accepted wisdom over at AVS after compiling over 10 pages of upgrade experiences).

Sadly mine isn't connected that way - my DVI cable from my Sony HS10 has an HDMI adapter on the end which plugs into the HD-A1. My Pioneer VSX-1015 amp doesn't have any HDMI inputs.

i have finally got it to start. it took about 30 mins to move to 10pct, i suppose i just have to wait now.

i'll report back later

Thats good to hear mate, I had my fingers crossed that your previous aborted attempt hadn't somehow bricked the upgrade mechanism in your A1.

it finally finished and everything works perfectly. it took ages but i'm glad i have no problems.

the hdmi handshake sequence has changed.

i just tried the mi3 bridge scene and it ran perfectly where i had a problem with it previously. i cant do further tests until later

In that case if you dont have any audio errors or glitches etc I'd stay with v2.0 for now.

Toshiba Preps for Online Interactivity with First-Gen HD DVD Player Firmware Update

Wed Apr 04, 2007 at 02:51 PM ET

Toshiba has launched the latest firmware upgrade for its two first-gen HD DVD disc players, adding support for network-delivered content in HD DVD discs, expected to be released this fall.

Toshiba posted intructions for downloading the firmware, dubbed Version 2.1, to its official site earlier this week. The upgrade supports its two first-gen HD DVD players only, the models HD-A1 and HD-XA1.

The official statement from Toshiba on what is contained in the download is as follows:

"This firmware update adds support for certain anticipated network delivered content in future HD DVD discs, improves certain video and audio processing capabilities, as well as addresses certain disc playback and HDMI/DVI related problems identified by Toshiba."

Though no HD DVD titles with network-connected features have yet been announced, it's good to see Toshiba continuing to support their first-gen hardware devices, as well as preparing for next-gen connectivity well ahead of time. (Here's hoping they'll soon provide an update for the rash of recently-reported incompatibility issues with their second-gen players and select HD DVD discs.)

For those unable or opting not to download the upgrade directly (which requires using the Ethernet port on the back of your HD DVD Player), Toshiba is also offering a firmware CD to registered consumers via postal mail. For more information on the CD version of the upgrade, visit the Toshiba Version 2.1 firmware download webpage.

i just checked out King Kong and i am sure my eyes cant deceive me this much. the picture quality since the firmware upgrade has improved beyond a shadow of a doubt. i tried a couple of my favourite scenes and im am gobsmacked at the level of detail and 3d-ness of the image.

put the time on 1:31.00 for about 10 minutes see for yourselves

RE THE HANDSHAKE

previously when you played a universal disc the music would start but the universal logo would appear after about 8-9 seconds. now the music starts and the logo appears after about 2 secs. so basically the picture appears quicker than before

thats great to hear would mean a quicker startup. they copped a bit of flak about that initially so probably a bonsu for quite a few.

try connecting straight to your modem rather than a router. it might be a better quicker way

Some people would rather wait for the ISO to appear. Respect their decisions.

i was sure i was replying to foggy. anyway.............

theres that pot calling the kettle black again. since when have you ever respected anything or anyone. i told you what you are. a megalomaniacal, self centred lunatic.

i am sure foggy took my comments the way they were intended. as a tease and a dash of jest.

are you following me around the boards or something?

GO AWAY YOU PEST
