What's happening, has it started yet?

Is Kylie playing?

Is Nana playing?

Can the Chef actually cook and is he as handsome as he says he is?

Of course if you answer in the affirmative to the last question there will be some explanations needed.

[/b]

Yes.................... he can cook.

Best

Tony, we could have had a GTG down at the Greek festival at Sema4 today.

Took the grandson down for awhile. Gave him $20 (I am a pensioner) to enjoy himself for a couple of hours on the sideshows.

Lasted 45 minutes with 25 of those on the mini golf, and we headed home to watch a DVD. OH! well.

A great time was had by all  , Where's the pictures for poor Grumpy Amfibius  ?

It was great to be able to fly the SA flag Grumpy, good to catch up with a couple of familiar faces (Hi Norpus & Spearmint) finally meet Albonau, and meet plenty of new guys (apologies if I don't recall all the screen-names here  ).

Joz and Mrs Joz put on a fantastic spread and really made us all feel really welcome, thanks heaps to them for opening up their house for the GTG.

It was a wonderful day today both with the weather and the surroundings plus of course the sensational hosts and great company.

I was only there for around three hours because we had a family night at our place so I had to get home for that.

Joz you have a fabulous home both inside and out and a lovely family, thankyou very much for having us over.

The spread that was put on was absolutely fabulous with plenty of food and variety to suit all tastes. You have certainly raised the bar now Joz, this is going to be hard to top.

There was a good crowd of enthusiasts in attendance, and from what I could tell everyone was having a good time. We were waited on hand and foot by the Joz’s and were made to feel at home. I left just as the music was starting to happen so I’ll have to leave these comments for others.

Thanks again Joz & Mrs Joz, for putting on a very enjoyable afternoon.

BTW I was stripped searched at the start and all my Kylie discs were confiscated, plus locks had been put on all the equipment so I couldn’t operate any of it. Not Happy :( (j/k)

Nice of you to take a pic of me drinking! At least it was SA beer Grumpy, now that I'm willing to drink your beer are you willing to replace that Dansette and get a real TT?

I was late for the food, but the hospitality was great. It amazes me how people just let us in to their houses when we have only met on the 'net. Huge thanks to Mr and Mrs Joz for the hospitality and the chance to listen to his system. Nice to see a few faces I've seen before and some new people. Apologies for forgetting names, they just don't stick in my head.

Great photos Amfibius

Handy for giving Mrs M a hint of the expected catering standard for audio gtg's  I suspect she figures it's less of a challenge if I do some border hopping instead. Anyway, we need to drum up a few more local members if we're going to get something happening over here :(

Looks like everyone's having a great time, even before the music bit got going. When's the next one, Joz?

Must check the frequent flyer points.......can't leave Austen to fly the SA flag all by by himself, though I'm sure he did us proud.

Thanks ozcal. I used the most humble lens in my collection - a 50mm F/1.4. I love that lens, it is so sharp and performs really well even when wide open. Not all 50/1.4's are as good as mine though ... I went through 3 of them before I found one which has top notch performance.

Anyway Joz, your system has a lot of presence for such a small speaker for the room. It's probably because your room is so reflective and I could hear mostly echo. The way to go would be larger speakers and more furniture and carpets. You told me that your wife wants a custom made 3x3m carpet. Hang the expense, it would be a more worthwhile upgrade to your sound than any component you care to name  Make sure it's nice and thick wool. The next step would be to add some acoustic foam, but it might be harder to get that one past your wife ...

You're obviously a man of taste so it would be intriguing to see what happens when you get some spare cash to spend on hi-fi once your renovations are finished.

Oh, and Luckydog ... thanks for having me around today. I'm not just being nice when I told you that you have the best setup I have heard so far. Spearmint was my previous benchmark and you have just displaced him (sorry spearmint). You give the appearance of being a laid back Aussie bloke but you're one of the most meticulous and careful audio-nutters I have ever met.

Those VAF I-93's really image well. When you got out of the room I went to check if you hadn't cheated and turned on the center channel speaker, because the singer was so firmly rooted in the center. It was off, and I was very impressed.

You are probably right when you say that the power amp is the weak link in the system. They have plenty of juice and never sound compressed, even when the music gets loud. So in that sense they are quite well matched to the speaker. But it would be nice if they were just slightly more transparent and had slightly more detail. But that's being nitpicky - there is nothing wrong with your system and it's certainly a place where I could spend the whole day.

I noticed you did not mention valve amps. When I emailed VAF last year, they thought that SET's would be a good choice to partner your speaker. Maybe borrow a pair to see how they go?

Err...bit late to mention it now Grumpy. Would've been a nice day for a jaunt back to the old stomping ground....might just have got off my bum and gone for a drive to say gooday (and maybe have a beer or two) Used to love that Metaxa Greek brandy

Good dose of live Greek music at the festival? Better than listening to Nana LP's?

Cheers

Tony

Thanks so much Joz & Mrs Joz for a truly wonderful afternoon/evening. You provided a magnificent setting for us hifi nutters to congregate and mingle. Again, the best part of this hobby and PA site is getting to know like minded people with a passion for our common interest. Well done.

Thanks for the kind words Amf. Thanks for going to the trouble to drop by.

This has been a massive weekend (which started on Thursday) of audio, mixed with socialising and plenty of drink. It is a weekend which will be hard to top.

Amfibius, I agree with your sentiments…

BTW check out these two posts.

Post 1

All I can say is WOW! These speakers are big, and their imaging is amazing. I was so inspired on how they imaged, that I rushed home grabbed an arm chair from my study and sited it in the zone of my mains. Amazing how the imaging has improved 10 fold I reckon and the sound stage has more 3d effect. Thanks Luckydog for opening my eye’s and ears to the virtues of sitting in the “Zoneâ€.

The room is sensational; the acoustic treatments certainly dampen the room, more so than mine. Then again there are a lot more treatments being used, than in my room. The treatments don’t appear to have any negative results on the sound stage or imaging, in fact the depth and height of the sound stage is quite remarkable.

[/b]

Post 2

Thanks Field for posting your thoughts, and yes those Vaf’s do have a great sound, and the imaging is the best I’ve heard to date.

[/b]

You are either being too generous, or LuckyDog's setup genuinely images better than yours! However, if it was true, and LD's setup is better ... it would be scary to imagine how good it would be. It's certainly making me lean heavily towards building a new house (instead of just buying), I can tell you that!
