Guest JohnA Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Quote Damn the man could talk upside down, underwater with a mouth full of marbles...... cheers James [/b] HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA yes he does like to talk doesn't he
jimmmy Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Quote they are ok, but i think you need 4 of them   [/b] hahahaha Greg actually recommended 4 twins in a good system..I just shook my head at that. I think one of those monsters would do the trick. His subs provide nice bass though. All the way down to his 'litte' 12" one. Sorry I should have said I audioned the subs too. They are very tight, deep and impossible to locate in a room. No rumble, no distortion......I think I will might be leaning towards a whole osborn system.. cheers James
Guest alebonau Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Quote SSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh but i'm running 7.1 so do i need 8 of them???? [/b] hehehe its so easy to get that confused isnt it ! hehe

I still want to try a couple more locally available brands such as monitor and paradigm but at present the Osborns are fairing well. Interludes were very impressive considering they are a simple two speaker design. The eclipses did it all with a lot more ease and clarity even though they were not fully run in, PMCs were mush. The elacs were very tight and accurate and went surprisingly low but I did not noitce a huge difference between their 208s and 209s even though one is about twice the price of the other. Krix are good in the lower price bracket but I think their are better options in the 3k and higher brackets. Legend was dissapointing but I want to give them another chance. Aslan were very good and held together at extreme volumes but I do believe the Momuments pipped them at the post. Mirage were nice but would like to give them more of a chance before commenting too much. Anyway will give the elacs and legends a run tomorrow and maybe the paradigms and mirage/monitors later in the week. cheers James
Drizt Posted December 12, 2006 Author Posted December 12, 2006 Thanks for the mini review mate, and im sure there will be more GTG's in the future. In this house hold we are split between the Grand Monuments and the Australs... hehe, pity its only a pipe dream for us

Drizt Posted December 12, 2006 Author Posted December 12, 2006 Quote can I ask which way you are leaning????? cheers James [/b] hmmmm, its a tough call in this house hold... Jen likes the Australs, actually likes is to weak a word, she loves them. I love both speakers and would happily live with either, but if it came down to it I would choose the Grand Monuments. Would need a lot more time with both speakers before making a final decision though, and its all personal choice

Drizt Posted December 12, 2006 Author Posted December 12, 2006 Just a bit of a quick update for those that are attending. The event is BYO booze but I'm getting confirmation on any other pertinent information. Have all you guys organised your transport details?
Waylander Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 At the $6k range with regards to Osborns would you be leaning towards Epitome + Bass Unit or maybe the Eclipse References? Please disregard this question if it's prying - I'm considering a similar investment - probably looking at the Eclipse due to higher WAF and the fact I could pretend they were the regular ones and they hadn't cost me $5k I did love the Epitome's + Bass Units though - if only the footprints weren't soo big! I'm planning on starting with a dedicated 2 ch set up and then slowly building up the HT (although I started the HT side of things with a 50" Pioneer PDP a month ago and it reinvigorated my love of music weirdly enough - an expensive passion as I am finding out).

Gee Emm Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Quote Have all you guys organised your transport details? [/b] I will be travelling solo from the Lilydale area (42km due East from the CBD) if anyone enroute needs a lift.
davidsss Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 I should be able to bring a red from the cellar I'm fine for transport from Elsternwick, we'll see if Joz (I think) wants a lift. I'll be interested to see the differences between the Epitome and the Eclipse as that's what I would be looking at. The Bass units with the Epitome would be too big for my room and budget so just looking at Epitome sans bass units. See Ya Friday DS
Mike.L Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 Sounds like Ditz has organised a good night with Greg, Hope you all enjoy it.
Guest JohnA Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 Any chance of a midnight madness sale like 20% off twin ultimates then i can get five as 1 would be for free
joz Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 AAArrrggghh!!.............Unfortunately I can't make it this friday night.I tried to hang out just in case my situation may change but it hasn't. Being such a full on part of the year my only option is to get one of our other staff to do my shift, but I'm sure they are looking forward to having the day for their own rest.I can't be so selfish I'm sure I'll hear all about it the good time had by all All work and no play makes joz a very dull boy If for some miraculous reason I can get there I will. Until then I hope a good time will be had by all Enjoy! David thanks for the offer a lift, maybe we'll catch up soon seeing your just around the corner.

Drizt Posted December 14, 2006 Author Posted December 14, 2006 No problems Joz. Would have been good to catch up, but another time

Maybe Greg should think about it - the increased volume might somewhat counter the lower profit margin!

[/b] Eclipses were great and there was a difference bwteen them and the interludes. I am leaning towards the epitomes minus bass units as that is just getting a bit much for the room. When you compare the size and weight of these speakers to similarly priced o/s speakers I am guessing they are built tough enough without the extra lead and felt etc I am thinking of putting in an order soon just considering sub options. Not sure if I should stick with the original deephaze choice. cheers James
