Keith_W Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 Some of you us may have watched in dismay as B&W released prototype photos of the speaker they are building to celebrate their 40th anniversary as a speaker manufacturer. I was anticipating a new design that would blow away the avant-garde Nautilus 800, or a speaker even more beautiful than the 801's. But instead, we got quite literally a dustbin of a design. If you are curious to take a look at B&W's newest loudspeaker, go here.
pathetic Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 What were they thinking? The designer prolly got hit by a trashcan and wolla...new design...hehe.

Keith_W Posted October 25, 2006 Author Posted October 25, 2006 That link is also interesting because it features some of B&W's older speakers. Interesting to look at the evolution of the 800 series for example! You can see the family resemblance in the latest models in the same way a modern Mercedes has styling hints carried over from earlier models.
Wilco Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 woo nice thread....but i perfer some of their old speakers to the 40th edition... dismay is an understatement!
joz Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Looks like even B+W aren't immune to the ugly stick
THOMO Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 As a furniture designer I am horrified. What were they thinking? My guess is they were trying to give it an "industrial look" but ended up with a sewer pipe look. Of course it could be a plan to stop Chinese white van speaker companies from copying their appearance-who could possibly want to copy something this ugly.
coemaudio Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 It reminds me of those DIY horn speakers that people build with PVC plumbing pipes  linky! linky2!
