  1. Thanks for that everyone, I'll gave Kimil and soundlabs a call and see where to go from there. Cheers Tanka.
  2. Hello all, I have a Shanling CDT80 which I have had for about three years, but would be lucky to have 100hrs playing time. It is extremely fussy on what it will play. For example, I purchased Gotye - Making Mirrors (nice CD actually), and the shanling refused to play it with the "no disc" message. If I copy the CD, it will play the copied one, but still not the original even though it is brand new. It is not just this disc but quite a few a have that just get the "no disc" treatment. It does not skip or carry on in any other way when it chooses to play discs. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be the drama, or any ideas on where I might be able to take it in the Sydney/Blue Mountains/Lithgow area. Cheers in advance Tanka.

  4. Looks like we'll have to share, coz that's what I got too. My #2 was Paris Hilton who I would settle for so long as she didn't speak. Cheers Tanka.

  6. Whilst away for the week I found myself humming along to a Shannon Noll song. Luckily I was close to a mental health facility at the time. I just hate when they get a great song, cut it down to 45 seconds and just murder it. Give me the Jetsons and Hogans Heroes any day. Hooooogaaaaan!!
  7. Hello all, Late last year, I noticed that some of my gear, although being exceptionally reliable, was getting long in the tooth. So I set about upgrading it. I replaced my Receiver, my CD player, and my DVD player and STB with a PVR Combo. Since then every single one of these items has subsequently broken down and had to return for warranty repair. The combination unit was refunded after a long battle and I used the money to purchase a different PVR and separate DVD player. But today upon turning on the PVR, there is no picture, and so in it goes for repair. Yes, it is under warranty and will be fixed for free, but yes it is very inconvenient and frustrating to have to use your old equipment again. None of these items were cheap and all are reputable brands. Have I got bad luck or has the quality of such goods slid to this level across the board? It just seems like these days it is too much to expect for an item to actually function correctly for a reasonable amount of time. Previous to this "upgrade" I have never had a breakdown. Anyway, thanks for listening, I feel a little better now. Cheers Tanka.
  8. I will be going with Vista Basic 64bit on my new gaming machine and turning all the pretties off. I don't need all the other garbage that comes with premium and ultimate. I just want DX10 support without the hassles of patching XP. I think whether or not its a good thing, times change, and XP support and upgrades won't be around forever, especially if MS is having trouble selling their new product, so to me its really a matter of when to upgrade, not if. Inevitability is the word that comes to mind when you look at the dearth of alternatives out there. Cheers Tanka.
  9. I'm surprised there are no trekkies out there in SNA. That enterprise is pretty cool. Cheers Tanka.
  10. In the morning ratrace its usually ABC newsradio to make sure there are other people in the world feeling miserable. In the arvo, something easy and relaxing like Neil Young, Pink Floyd or Rodriguez. At night time on the way home from arvo shift its electronica all the way, maybe some trance if I'm feeling particularly spaced out. In the clanker forbie I just throw the ipod onto pot luck and see what comes out. Cheers Tanka.
  11. I am with you 1000% with this. Im an SBS news man. Don't get me started on newspapers either..... Cheers Tanka.
  12. "And I love you soooooooo......." Over 2 hours of smooth. Perry Como just has that ambience that is perfect for eating, drinking, and doing many other things by.
  13. Currently eating dinner by Perry Como 40 Greatest Hits on LP. Simply Divine. Cheers Tanka.
  14. Yep, liked what I heard at the GTG, a first time for me too. Will have to see if there are any tix and whether I can fit it into my work schedule. I'm just about due for an illness however, so that may allow me to pop along.... Cheers Tanka

How good was that?? I didn't really care who won tonight, was just great to see them both in the final, and what a match!!! Cheers Tanka.
  16. A fascinating result, you must agree. Next comparo I would like to see, how much difference there is if any, comparing transports on the same dac. Hmmmmm Cheers Tanka.
  17. I had a top day yesterday, was great to meet all the guys, everyone was just so friendly and great to have a beer and a laugh with. Special thanks to Andrew for donating his gear and place to use and abuse, Tony C for bringing that uber equipment up for us to paw and evaluate, and also to scuzzi for burning me half of Joz's music collection. I'd just also like to highlight how interesting the results of the source comparo are seeing as they haven't been posted yet. I would post them myself, but my computer hasn't quite warmed up yet and I haven't got the 45 mins to wait right now. (F*$% OFF!! Terry J shouts from the background.) Anyone who has hesitated in the past to go to one of these bashes, as I have done in the past, should really do themselves a favour and get along. It really is just so laid back and cool (specially with joz's jazz hits going) and you really spend most of your time in stitches, I did anyway, and if you can manage to jag a few seconds in the cool seat (when LD is in the dunny) you can really appreciate some top shelf gear. I'll definitely be going to all the ones I can. Anyway, enough from me for the moment, I've got to go and work in the the salt mines for a while so I can afford a pair of Minstrals. Cheers Tanka

  22. I'll be there on saturday, will be there for the BBQ. I'll bring steaks, how many people you got comin so far so I'll know how many to bring up? Cheers Tanka.
  23. I recently purchased a refurbished HDD ipod to use in my old 4WD as the dust and bouncing around was killing off cd players in short order. It has been fine and wasn't very expensive for 20gb. You can find them on ebay for fairly cheap. I know there are probly better sounding solutions out there but ipod stuff is everywhere and compatability isn't an issue, plus I'm not sure quite how critical your listening could get whilst running marathons or pumping iron. Cheers Tanka.
