  • Very good cool climate wine and certainly good value compared to the Clonakilla flagship. Co-fermented with 5% Viognier. Has the classic Canberra Shiraz white pepper.

  • Had a great lunch at Oncore by Clare Smyth yesterday. Very very exe wine list, so did matching wines..  grabbed an extra glass of this Neb.   Views speak for themselves

Cruisey Sunday arv. Just sipping a local IPA as the early spring sun settles through the trees and the Weber warns up for Sunday roast.

* Oh, interruption. What's that? Grant Burge wants a word. I'm on my way upstairs...IMG_20220828_161153069_HDR.thumb.jpg.3aa63ea447a623babbc3002b19caa395.jpg

Bladnoch 10 - Bourbon expression. A real diamond in the rough!

Down to my last bottle 😭...

If you can still track this down, then it's worth buying. Perfect balance of spirit and cask! 👌😋

Me and a mate from school days (I'm talking the sixties here) over from Pommerania did that walk just before covid bit. He actually caught the last flight out before the border closure. Great trek but I must have walked through a nest(?) of 'roo ticks and spent the next day being picked at by the misses!  Great arrival destination too I looked every bit as knackered as you.

This is more my style in wine purchasing (perhaps). I read this thread and am amazed at the dedication and willingness to spend such large amounts on something I am so disinclined to spend more than $15 a bottle on. It's not that I don't appreciate a nice(r) drop, nor do I think you lot are anything less than admirable in your good tastes. It's just so hit and miss for me, to spend $25 to >?? on something I then turn my nose up at would really pee me off, whereas a $<10 to 12 Merlot or Cab Merlot of whatever Aussie vinyard that has designed an eye-catching label and then quite nice or maybe not so nice, I'm not going to be too upset. - Troglodyte, I know.

On a sojourn down to Denmark WA I bought a couple of bottles of Single File Shiraz that had me in raptures for $15-ish per bottle. Now I can't find it for less than $35 and am loathe to indulge myself. I am not worthy, the wife keeps telling me so!

If I were to stretch my ever-so-tight purse to find $20.00 for an easy drinking red that's easy available (Danny's, BWS etc.) what would you canny-sewers recommend to this viniculturally challenged, taste-bud ruined, idle, tippler.

(I was a member of Naked Wines for a while but very little of their cheaper stuff was drink-able.)

That is actually a really good question. Firstly I don’t rate Naked Wines - great marketing but not great vino. But more importantly spending more money won’t necessarily get you wine you like any more than what you currently drink.

I am always gifting my dad wine but he just does not get the enjoyment in it beyond his normal gear. And that saves him a fortune.

My wine journey had led me to appreciate wine that is more challenging or requires contemplation whereas he just wants it to be “smooth” .

You will see most people in this hobby start out with SA Shiraz and end up in Burgundy (or Nebbiolo) with stops in Cabernet or Aussi Pinot along the way.

Commercial wine is designed to be smooth and a lot of people expect when they spend more that they will get a superior smooth wine. But in reality they end up with tannin or acid and they are just not accustomed to those elements and subsequently are let down (there is also the diminishing returns and the power of marketing - Penfolds has a loyal following and have capitalised in recent years with ridiculous price gouging for wine that is good but pretty generic. Others like Curtis and Maverick put ridiculous prices on their wine but constantly deep discount it through sites like Vinomofo to make people think they are getting a great bargain when in reality they are paying what the wine is worth).

I suggest letting us know the flavours you enjoy and the learned folk on here can suggest some suitable drops. For what it is worth this deal on Vinomofo is fantastic 🙂

It will be accommodation in MR this time, the others not so keen to rough it. Our wives doing the drop off each morning 🥰

Try and get to Dukes in Porongurup sometime. Recently purchased by a mate of mine. He is a serious Nebbophile who has worked Barolo. And a little winery called Dujac.

Yeah, may have heard of that 🙏

2021 Powell (changing name to Neldner Road soon) Marsanne. A forerunner to this was the 2018 Roussanne Marsanne when I reconnected with Dave's work. The 18 nearly brought me to tears - so evocative. This is fresher, but still luscious.

Roast chook and all the bits.

Sage advice Pops, why worry about being classy and knowledgeable when all that does is drain the bank balance  quicker. Ignorance is indeed bliss (most some of the time) but will follow this thread to hear of any quality bargains that may be going.  Your recommendation below looks to be my kind of wine (and price.) Usually a Cab Merlot easy slurper and the odd Shiraz will tickle my fancy but must broaden my horizons a little methinks.

No worries - this is the wine by the way - it is very easy to drink but still has some nice complexity.

After tasting what seemed like half the wines in Margaret River on the weekend it’s good to be home and chill out with a beer.
