Power was my biggest concern but for my listening levels the Time Machine/VAF combo is working well. I even had some Pixies playing on the weekend and had enough headroom, I didn't realise Black Francis has such a lovely singing voice :D

You are welcome to drop by and have a listen anytime.

As for the Tannoys , maybe one day.

Good to hear, Mark. I will definitely take up your offer at some stage.:)

wow ... they are a bit over the top. Form over function with these?

Actually, I believe these are form because of function.

I read an article a long time ago about these speakers and the shape is driven by the attempt to reduce to zero reflected sound. Or something.

I am sure someone else here can give a far better explanation.

Last I heard they were the studio monitors at Abby Road Studios.

I many who have refer to them as the Best Speaker In The World. For what that's worth.

I missed this thread but its a really nice setup for what I am assuming is a lounge.

It looks very inviting.

That time machine fits in perfectly. A nice, natural contrast to all the black and white.

Magnificent. Would love to see a wide shot to take in the whole kit and kaboodle - if it's possible.

Nice setup very neat. +1 for a wide angle if possible. Well done. I do like this setup.

Close ups of Time Machine please!

Have to agree, you have a very nice and tidy set up their Lebowski.

Well done.......

Magnificent. Would love to see a wide shot to take in the whole kit and kaboodle - if it works.

thanks Bunyip, the TM does look good sitting on gloss white cabinet, always gets plenty of comment from visitors, usually 'what the **** is that'

Will try a wide angle and upload later this week.

thanks Bluroo.

check page 1 as there are some close ups of the TM

cheers handysteel, I'm very happy with the system now. Only upgrades planned now are to improve the computer source and I have a couple of things in mind

Hi Lebowski,

Very nice. Another +1 (+2 ?) for wanting to see a wide angle view of the front of the room, cabinet plus VAF's in one pic. It's so uncluttered, like something from Vogue magazine, i dare not show my missus.

I noticed the power amp sitting under the AV receiver, obviously you've had no XS heat issue.

Cheers,

Ed

if you could see what lurks behind the cabinet you'd laugh, there are cables everywhere.

I sold the NAD C272 as I didn't like how it sounded with the VAF's. It had a heap of power and only ever got slightly warm ... the Cambridge on the other hand would get very hot, when run as a Pre AMp into the NAD.

did you relocate the TV? Mt recollection is that placing the bottom edge of the screen some 80cm to 90 cm from the floor gives an ideal viewing height.

Do you run the TV audio through your gear, or through the TV? If through your gear, have you had any issues in integrating sound and vision?

As others have said, a nice clean room. I undertsand that the cable spagetthi is hidden. Still a nice clean room though.

I moved it lower on the wall and my guess is it's close to 90cm from the floor, the AV cabinet is very low.

I run Audio out via toslink from TV into a Cambridge Audio 540R as well as optical out from the DVD player to the 540R. Both work fine and no issues with audio and vision synchonising

Hi Dude,

That Lavry is a good match with the rest of your system and TM/VAF sounded good together too. Now you just need Earle to custom made a matching wooden front plate and case for that Lavry to improve the WAF..:(

thanks mate. It's good to get positive feedback on my system from someone with much more hi-fi experience than myself.

I hear you on the Lavry, not the prettiest thing but it kind of looks good in an industrial sort of way.

There must be one somewhere................... :(

believe me, I've thought about it and perhaps one day I'll do it, in fact I'm sure I will.

I was wondering the same thing. A Turntable would set off the whole rig nicely.

Thanks for taking the shot Dude. The timber in the speakers and the Time Machine go together beautifully.

I know it's about the music, but it's a bonus when the visual appeal is hitting high marks as well!

I just realised I think i have the same DVD/VCR as you. Pioneer right? Which lets you copy tapes to disc with the press of a button?

  • Author

Hi Bunyip, the TV is a Pioneer but the DVD/VCR combo thingo is a Panasonic.

Thanks for the kind words, you're welcome to have a listen anytime

Doh! I meant Panasonic. So I reckon it's the same.

And thanks for the invite. I'd love to take you up on it some time. Just need the year to settle down - bloody busy start!!

OK, makes sense re heat issue.

The updated full system pic looks great. As Bunyip said the timber on amp and speakers go well together.

Soundwise have you experimented with the VAF's placed closer together ? or fine as is. May depend on how far you sit from them for dedicated listening.

Regards,

Ed

I'd like to bring the speakers closer together but wife will have none of it, something about blocking the view out the back windows to the mountains. Wimmin ... I just don't get em : )
