Does anyone have any experience with the original Denon AVC A1 (not AVC A1SE or other models) Found this thing on gumtree. He wanted $100 for it but I bargained it to $85. The guy said the phono didn't work, but that didn't bother me. From the research I've done it probably sold for 4-5k usd between 1998-2001. I'm relatively new to hifi so this probably doesn't carry much weight, (no pun) but it's the biggest heaviest amp I've ever seen. It Weighs 30kg. It was a 5.1 surround amp. My setup is 2 B&W 685s2s powered by an arcam a19. I plugged the Denon and it seems to eat my Arcam in every possible way. Am I imagining this? The fellow I bought it from seemed quite knowledgeable. I would love to hear from anyone who has experience with this amp. I want to venture into hi fi with some speakers and want to know how far I can go before the Denon becomes the bottleneck.

Two lovely records. Cover has split seams at the bottom opening on both sides, and central split on bottom edge both sides. Big, heavy cardboard cover gives the whole thing some heft. $35 Deep Dish - Yoshiesque Two - 5xLP UK original in slipcase (REACTLP187) VG+/VG+ . Generally great condition with all records looking lovely. Disc 4 could do with a clean by your preferred method, else more than presentable. Sleeve is slightly marked but absolutely astounding it has been kept in such beautiful condition. Overall, a dance classic of 5 LP’s in original slipcase, in rarely seen near-pristine condition. $55 Jeff Buckley – Live A Sin-E Box set RSD 2018 - Limited and numbered (88985494801) N.Mint inside and out, complete w/everything in pristine box. #4939 $75 The Who - Who's Next - USA 1971 OG (DECCA DL-79182) – Rainbow Decca labels. Unsurpassed original Doug Sax master tape press of The Who's all-time masterwork. With W-2X in the runoff on both sides.. And they rock like no other OG. Visually, the record is a nice VG+ on each side with only some very light hairlines - far better than what I usually encounter. Sonically, Side 1 has everything coming in at a solid VG++ or better, save for the unavoidable VG+ sections of Baba & Bargain's soft parts, and the intro to Song Is Over. Side 2 is very much the same, save for the usual VG+ stuff during the intro to Gettin' In Tune & Behind Blue Eyes, and some of the organ parts of Won't Get Fooled. Cover is a solid VG+, with some light wear and creasing, mostly towards the rear black side. The record has been VPI cleaned and placed in a new Japanese die-cut poly inner sleeve. $80 Coldplay - Rush Of Blood To The Head (WHITE B&N exclusive) NM/NM unsealed, no hype sticker on front, else complete and lovely. This is such a powerful sounding record and has everything.. incredible SQ, ZERO noise, and the ‘is that a vinyl record on because I don’t hear anything between tracks?’ feeling. Plus, a decent cover, with the original sleeve polylined-inner intact and still white. Marked down because the cover sports a name in blue pen top left front in the corner, but really, nothing to write home about. The record features KDisc Ken Perry (KP) mastering and what looks like US metal stampers…that’d explain it. $45 Chris Isaak - Silvertone - German 1985 Alsdorf original PROMO 1st press. (925 156-1) VG++/NM. Cover has light rubbed wear on the very top edges, else the entire thing is very nice. Back is near perfect also. Original paper insert looks white, clean and great condition all around. The wax is absolutely outstanding with a huge sound, not even showing a hairline in strong overhead light. Looks like US stampers again. Absolutely sweet copy! $55 The Church - Starfish – Europe/UK 1988 pressing made in Germany and still in shrink (Arista - 208 895) VG+/VG++. Very nice cover in 90% of the factory shrink, with a small capital ‘H’ in red pen right at the top right of the opening the only thing to note. Original DM price sticker underneath the shrink on back cover top right. Original OIS in nice shape The record plays beautifully throughout with great SQ and excellent mastering. $60 The Rocky Horror Picture Show Movie Cast - 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show Soundtrack' (Ode Records - OSV-21653) Factory sealed original 1975 vintage US pressing, no marks, looks as new. I've compared the AUS original, and the various modern red vinyl repressings to these US original pressing on ODE Records, and the USA press is STREETS ahead, most noticeably on tracks like my favourite, "I'm Going Home". A near perfectly preserved piece of authentic 70's rock history. $60 Neil Young - After The Gold Rush – US original pressing with RE-2 deadwax and Artisan mastering (Reprise Records - RS 6383) VG+/VG+. With poster lyric insert. The cover has minor edge and corner rubbing, 6-inch split to bottom seam, clean spine, clean gatefold. The wax has minor scuffing and some surface marks and soft scratches, plays VG++ with just some occasional minimal background noise. (Neil remixed this lp approximately 6 months after the initial release, most notably remixing ‘When You Dance’, a completely different mix and running time. The Master tapes were provided to cut with for both the RE-1 and RE-2, and Artisan knocked it out of the park on both cuts. Both are essential. At some point the Artisan stampers started wearing out with the continuing popularity of this record, by the mid-70s those are gone, and then Capitol started making some ****ty cuts as any remaining Artisan stampers never made the transition when Reprise stopped doing business with Columbia in 76.) You’ll love this. $45 AC/DC - Fly On The Wall – European original still in shrink and RL mastering (Atlantic - 781 263-1) NM/VG+. Has inner sleeve, and the cover still in more than 90% of the factory shrink still tight. The inner has three 3" seam splits, and the cover has just minor rubbing to the right-hand corners. The vinyl is awesome with just two minimal sleeve scuffs but plays strong and beautifully throughout with that Robert Ludwig mastering both sides (deadwax). $45 ZZ Top - The Best Of ZZ Top – German original (WB 56 598, BSK 3273) VG+/NM. The cover is still in 90%+ of the factory shrinkwrap with some light rubbing along right edge and some evidence of light bends. The vinyl is glossy and close to NM with a few very soft surface scuffs and plays perfectly. $40 John Lee Hooker – The Healer – Europe 1st press from 1989 (ORE LP508) NM/NM. Near perfect cover and record without a single mark in the strongest overhead light. Plain white paper inner. $45 Bruce Springsteen – Darkness On The Edge of Town – UK 90’s repress (CBS 32542) NM/NM. Unplayed and wonderful. All inserts, no exclusions, no wear. Top stuff for this title. $30 Fleetwood Mac - Rumours – textured sleeve German 1977 original press (WB 56 344) VG/VG+. Nice cover with just very light age wear on front (these are often trashed, but this one holds gloss and has very few marks at all), nice legible spine, very nice mark-free rear cover. No OIS or inserts at all. The record features a very nice master, and clear bright sound throughout. Very little noise expect some light crackle on a few entrys on early tracks each side, else a completely enjoyable listen start to finish (with ‘Gold Dust Woman’ sounding terrific). $18 Dire Straits - Love Over Gold - AUS press (6359 109) VG++/VG++. Spaceship Vertigo labels. Lovely cover with just a few minor seam splits/bends the worst I can find on front. Really nice OIS. Whole package for this 2nd press is very solid. And of course the wax...what's our minimum call-out on this title? Yup - mark and noise free. This is another beauty. $30 Dire Straits - Communique - AUS press (6360 170) strong VG/VG++. Cover is lovely but for the odd mark and some edge splits/bends on front. Slight rubbing marks on the rear, and flattened spine (but still perfectly legible). The wax plays beautifully. $22 Dire Straits – Making Movies - UK 2nd press (6359 034) VG/NM. The cover is actually really good, but for some sticker residues (which don’t look too bad on this glossy red cover) and some small edge splits (which do show up because of the glossy red cover). Lovely clean OIS. The wax is superb – noise free and plenty of THWACK! $40 Dire Straits – Dire Straits – AUS original 1978 press (6360 162) VG/NM. The cover is pretty nice, but for the ringwear mark front and back that occasionally accompanies this white/cream background after years of storage. Excellent clean bright OIS. Remarkable record without a hint of noise and a blissful listen. $28 LIVE – Secret Samadhi – New double vinyl repress on black wax (Music On Vinyl) SEALED and brand new. STMLO 11070 Aus pressing. Great set from the living legend. Record looks and sounds great with little to zero noise. Cover has some pen writing on the back top and a little below that, plus some tape residue. Else, very nice and very presentable. Small wrinkle of the front top left corner and a hint of ringwear, but not too bad. Get it for the wax. $8 Darkfringe - ELO - Discovery - VG/VG+. JT6014 AUS pressed original. Nice condition original with very little wear to the cover (hint of ringwear on back and some spine wrinkling, bottom left corner bend) and a stellar record with little to zero noise. Also comes with the original colour poster insert and excellent lyric inner. $14 Elton John - Captain Fantastic & The Brown Dirt Cowboy - US pressed original gatefold w/ 16 page lyric booklet and colour poster (MCA-2142) VG+/VG+. Cover is great but for light rubbing wear and edgewear. Record is great but for light marking, and sounds great with only light noise/odd dust pop on Side 1 in quiet passages and between tracks, and almost whisper quiet on Side 2. Remarkable SQ throughout! $18 Snake - Dire Straits - Love Over Gold - US pressing (WEA 23728-1) VG+/VG+. Masterdisk ('BK') Bill Kipper mastering (extremely highly rated with remarkable SQ). Cover is great but for some edgewear, corner bumping, price sticker top right, paper inner with tiny tears. Record is marked but otherwise very nice and plays with a little lead-in noise for the first minute before the music kicks up a notch on 'Telegraph Road'. Then all you hear is the incredible drums, piano and guitars. Gentle crackle in the quieter moments. $14 Ananth - Sigur Ros - Sunflower - Unofficial LP (Divinorum Neglectus - DN 71042) M/M. Brand new copy, with great sound (needle dropped to check it). $35Talk Talk - It’s My Life - New Zealand pressing of the LP (EMC 220) VG+/VG+. Some rubbing wear to the front cover, with tiny sticker residue top left. Slight roll and wear to the spine. The back cover is fairly clean. The photo inner shows some light age spots, else still white and pretty clean. Record sounds great and plays strong and clear throughout.$15kiwi.kelvin - Fleetwood Mac (original) - The Best Of - German pressing ( REP 44138) VG+/VG+. Really nice example of this great comp of Peter Green’s original band. Cover is lovely laminated example, with only a few minor lifts around the edges. The back has a little more lift in the laminate along the opening edge, otherwise clean, bright and attractive. Original German Asylum/Elektra back catalog inner promo sleeve is awesome. The record has a few tiny scratches in very bright light, but none sound, as this wax is too busy showing off its great SQ. $18 Van Morrison - Hard Nose The Highway - NZ pressed 1973 gatefold original. (WBS 2712). VG+/VG+. Nice cover with a bend top right that is barely noticeable on front, but pronounced on back. The folded gatefold is solid. 2 inch spine tear at very top but hanging together very well. The record is on Burbank labels shows some light wispy hairlines and marks and plays well. Under-rated title. $11Stevie Wonder - Fulfillingness First Finale - 1974 NZ original gatefold single album pressing. (STML 6124). VG++/VG++. Very slick 70’s original. Laminated Gatefold is near-spotless front and back and looks almost new but for tiny wear at the opening only. Record on reddy Tamla Motown labels, looks to have wispy hairlines only. $11 ‘Til Tuesday – Voices Carry - AUS original LP (ELPS 4481) VG+/VG++. Great cover but for slight ringwear on front, back and compressed spine. Nice original lyric inner. Awesome record with not a mark, and plays through very clean. $4Johnvinyljunkie - Little Richard – Here’s Little Richard – 2015 repress on 180gm (DOL-DOS629H). NM/NM. Nice package, with no wear on the cover, no wear on the record at all. Perfect sound. The cover is in fantastic condition, with just some really light corner and edgewear. A hair off NM actually. The original handwritten lyric poster is also in great condition.
