Hi all, I just acquired (no not stolen, got in from my inlaws, LOL) a Pioneer CT200 cassette deck and was wondering if they are any good and also if there is anyone in Melbourne who good give it a good once over and service. It probably needs new belts and setting back up to factory specs. Look forward to your advice.

Further information: This very little used deck is in excellent working condition. It was mainly used for recording off FM, and it was used just recently to transfer some family recordings to digital. There are some small and light scratches and smudges on the case, mainly the top, but the front panel is very clean with just some minor smudging from touching the controls. The display is unmarked, clear, bright and sharp. I have always been impressed with just how good these old high quality decks can sound! Comes with original box, manual, and remote (never used). Further Information: 2-head tape deck from the 1990s made in Japan. Am original owner, and you can see the box, having ordered it from Singapore that long ago. I was looking then for one of the 3 head units but I think? Nakamichi were winding down at that stage so this was the only unit available brand new that I could find. I got Into CDs and ended up not using this much at all. Maybe 30 hours tops in 30 years! Been in the box for most of those years. Box has manual. I never had the remote for this unit. Always kept the box in good and dry storage, haven't opened it in years. I plugged it in a few months ago, and you can see the display working. Can post at cost. No "in system" audition but you can bring a cassette tape with content and play the Nak and we can plug in headphones in the headphone socket (see front left) and you can test that way through the headphones.

The stereo receiver works with a nice warm sound (I think these were 25 wpc). It's a little crackly going through the selectors, but I guess it's needing a bit of a clean internally, maybe with some spray contact cleaner. The tape deck also looks in minty condition, BUT alas I think it no longer works, it powers on with a weird hum/grrrr noise? I actually don't have a single tape left in the house anywhere to even test it, so you're paying for the amp - pretty much, the tape deck is a bonus perhaps for someone who is inclined to repair or use it for some excellent parts! Further information A hand full of Cassette players that were to be a project that I have no interest in pursuing any longer like so many other of my diy pursuits. All players have been in storage for quite a few years now, they all turn on but need belts replaced as far as I can ascertain. All the vintage sliver ones present very nicely.
