  1. Quick question: I have a JVC9900 and a Panasonic 9000 blu ray player. Should I enable Dolby Vision on the Pana? Or is it pointless with that projector?
  2. Sadly the latest high-end Blu-ray players aren't included. I was hopeful!
  3. I just purchased a 9900 at runout price as well Mark. Looks as if we did very well!
  4. Anyone seen any good deals for the 9000? West Coast Hi-fi have it for $1319, but I'm not keen on buying something so far away...
  5. I've trawled this thread but am having trouble finding this answer: why are most people going with the 7000 over the 5000? Isn't it over $2000 more expensive? Trying to work out if I'd be happy with the X5000 on my new 130" screen (I'm a projector newbie)...
  6. Thanks Richard -- yep, I did as suggested and things worked out *pretty* well... when assembled the screen was a super tight fit height-wise (I think we'd allowed 5mm clearance). I'm guessing the flocking adds a bit of height at the corners if the joints aren't completely flush. The fabric was a bit tricky to get tight too, but rolling it into the third channel, then taking it out and putting it in the forth channel really helped. That's some pretty heavy duty fabric! Thanks again -- fabulous screen, and I can't wait to get an image onto it.
  7. Thanks guys. Next question: I can't seem to get the tension right on the AT fabric (I've let it sit for a bit in the hope it'll loosen up slightly). I've followed the installation instructions, but the wheel/tabs just aren't pulling it taut enough. Any tips?
  8. Yep, they will be. I'll be getting a new Oppo (when they arrive next year) and a JVC projector -- and making sure both are 2.2 compliant. Just wondering if I should be looking at upgrading my receiver too (Denon 4380CI)...
  9. Hi all, I'm looking for info on running an old(ish) Denon receiver with a new bluray and projector, both HDCP 2.2 compliant. I know I can feed the video from the bluray directly to the projector -- 4K, tick. But if the sound is going through the old receiver, will that work (with 4K material)? That is, is the audio signal encoded HDCP 2.2 as well as the video signal? I'm guessing yes... but good to ask before I have to buy a new receiver too! Cheers!
  10. Hi guys, I've just purchased a Majestic AT screen from Richard, and am debating the best way to mount it (tight) in the shadowbox I've built. Pic here of the enclosure part-finished (now that it's all black it's a bit hard to photograph!): I'd like the screen to sit about 200mm back in the box... am thinking of putting a 90x45mm inside the box across the top, securing the hook rail to that, then (somehow) hanging the screen off it. Will that work? I've got about 5mm each side to play with. My concern is that I won't be able to raise the screen enough inside the box to get it to slip over the hook rail. Anyone with experience? Cheers!
  11. Hi all, I'm in the market for a projector with lens shift and power zoom (with remote settings for two positions), that can do a 130" screen from about 7 metres away. Must ship to Hobart. It's for a scope AT screen, and the idea is to change the zoom between widescreen and regular viewing, to have black bars on the sides. JVCs preferred, but at this point I'm not too fussed. Just something quality. Thanks!
  12. Follow up question: I'm just about to frame up the equipment cupboard, and am wondering what depth I should make it. Is a 600mm internal depth sufficient? I want to make it as shallow as possible, so it doesn't take too much away from the rest of the room...
  13. Yeah, pretty close Kazz. But something without any sort of cap... just a nice flange around the outside to finish off the hole. There must be something out there... I just don't know what it's called...
  14. Hi all, I'm trying to source a very simple round "vent" that allows air/cables/rodents through the wall (well, maybe not so much rodents). Caps on both ends like the ports on speakers... something nice to finish it off. For the life of me I can't find anything. I put "cavity wall vents" into Google and get a lot of dryer vent kits, which I can't use as they have a louvered vent on the end. If I could find some sort of cap end to the ducting it might work, but where do you get that? I'm thinking around 100mm, so it'd be easy to use some PVC pipe... I just need some nice ends either side of the wall. What else would they be called?
  15. I like the look of the PRO1183 PRO2 IR REPEATER KIT... good price too. But has anyone managed to get one to work with two inputs? That is, two receivers into the same box?
  16. Just a touch late at this point Practically, though, it won't make much difference to sound isolation -- all that's missing is a thin strip of plaster at the intersection of the riser and wall. Filling the riser with batts will more than make up for it, I'm sure. I'll certainly take that advice for the cupboard at the back of the room, however. It'll give me a bit more time to nut out the best way to frame it as well...
  17. Time for an update. Things have been travelling pretty slowly, mainly due to the inability of the sparky to get on-site... very frustrating, but at least it's given me time to get on with the HT cupboards. Here are the IB subwoofer manifolds sitting in the screen's shadow box enclosure: The raised flooring for the rear half of the room is also being built: You might also notice the framing for the bulkhead ceiling in the top pic -- somewhat of a last minute addition, once I realised how high the room felt. A nice ropelight in the centre tray (thank you Bunnings) should set it off a treat. I am seriously not looking forward to carting/cutting the MDF for the rest of the front cupboard. The weight, the dust and the fiddling to get the angles right... like a jigsaw puzzle for grownups. I take my hat off to full-time cabinet makers...
  18. Exactly what I'd wondered, Richard -- the JVC will be at about 1.4x zoom (according to ProjectorCentral) so it sounds as if a curved screen is moot. Good news on the size too -- thanks for that. I'll keep building the shadowbox enclosure to fit the current dimensions in that case (3101x1423mm). Looks like the folks at Grand Designs Australia could be featuring the house in their magazine, so we may be able to get you a small mention as well. After all, the only reason I'm building this place is for the home theatre
  19. Thanks for posting this JR -- I'm in exactly the same boat. I was sold on buying one of the curved Elite AT screens, but now I'm thinking the hassle of importing (and the worry of damage) may get the better of me. The OTS 4K AT screen looks like it could be a good alternative. Does anyone know: do they make a curved version? And can they adjust the screen size slightly (without massive cost)? I've started building the cupboard for the screen, and it looks as if the OTS screen is slightly smaller (30mm) than the Elite screen...
  20. How often does JVC update their projectors? I won't be in my new house until July-August and would hate to see this superceded before it's even used...
  21. At the moment, trying to get the rest of the house in order Simon. The HT room's become a secondary task, particularly while I wait on the screen (as the front cupboard needs to be built to fit it). Will let you know when things progress...
