Spendor Launches Mark 2 A-Line Loudspeakers

Spendor's new quartet of A-Line loudspeakers feature refined crossovers, internal bracing, drivers and more.
Spendor has announced the launch of its second generation of A-Line loudspeakers, which is set to debut at this week's Bristol Hi-Fi Show and "reaffirms Spendor's dedication to true sound reproduction and unparalleled build quality."

The redesigned and optimised four-strong model range of premium entry-level speakers consists of one standmount (A1.2) and three floorstanding models (A2.2, A4.2, and A7.2), all of which are proudly made in the UK near Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

The entire range benefits from new internal bracing alongside a constrained damping layer of Sorbothane, minimising unwanted vibrations that can colour the sound. This design reduces cabinet interaction, minimising time smearing and lowering the noise floor, resulting in a cleaner, more precise sound with greater clarity in instruments and vocals. The improved bracing also promises enhanced stereo imaging with accurate soundstage placement.
All the floorstanders have refined port tuning, addressing issues of timing and accuracy. We're told the new tuning produces tighter, more well-defined bass that complements the midrange and treble frequencies. This works in concert with the cabinet's improved airflow and ensures consistent acoustic performance.

The A4.2 and A7.2, meanwhile, are blessed with a brand-new soft dome wide surround rear-chambered 27mm tweeter designed to deliver "a more open, dynamic, and natural high-frequency response." This is now partnered with a "refined" mid/woofer, which has been "optimally matched" via adjustments to its suspension to create minimised transient ringing and a more balanced and well-timed response. The drivers also receive a redesigned spider, improving cone control for better timing and transient response.
The new drivers also benefit from a "redefined" crossover network to enhance driver integration and overall performance. This has simplified the network and lowered the crossover point, which Spendor says achieves a more coherent and natural sound with improved stereo imaging and smoother off-axis response. These adjustments also make the larger floorstanders more amplifier friendly.

Torin Wilson, Chief Designer of the new A-Line speakers, told StereoNET:
This refined version represents a thoughtful and honest evolution, one that maintains the charm of its predecessor while delivering an even greater performance. By focusing on the key fundamentals, we have been able to fully optimise what we already have whilst maintaining manufacturing efficiency. The result is a cornerstone for future products, where a ground-up approach will be implemented.
The new A-Line series is available in a range of finishes, including Oak, Walnut, Black Oak, and Satin White veneer.

Pre-orders for the new A-Line have already begun ahead of its highly anticipated world debut at the Bristol Hi-Fi Show on Friday, 21st February 2025. Worldwide shipping will start in April 2025.
Prices per pair are as follows:
- A1.2: £1,495
- A2.2: £1,995
- A4.2: £2,995
- A7.2: £3,995
