Goer Dynamics, the parent company behind Dynaudio, Libratone and XEO, has announced a strategic partnership with IMAX and IMAX China to develop a new IMAX-branded entertainment system for vehicles.

The collaboration, unveiled at a signing ceremony in Qingdao, China, is aimed at premium car makers and is expected to enter commercial production by the end of 2026.
The companies say the system has been designed for the next phase of autonomous and highly connected vehicles, where the cabin is increasingly pitched as a “third living space” rather than simply somewhere to sit while travelling.

This is also the belief of Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE), which unveiled its own collaboration with IMAX Corporation, Mercedes-Benz, and Xperi Inc. at CES 2025, where RIDEVU, SPE’s in-car entertainment service, announced it will introduce IMAX Enhanced content with DTS:X audio in select Mercedes-Benz vehicles this year.

This service enhancement promises an immersive in-car entertainment experience, bringing IMAX Enhanced movies from SPE’s library into the car.
In-Car IMAX
At its heart is a multi-dimensional acoustic architecture developed for IMAX-branded in-car use, paired with a calibrated high-definition display system designed to deliver a more cinematic experience on the road.

The audio side promises ultra-high dynamic range, serious low-frequency power and robust, distortion-free bass response, while the visual package centres on an IMAX-certified smart display system.

While this is not directly a Dynaudio collab, the Danish speaker company has plenty of experience with outfitting vehicles with speakers such as Bugatti, Volkswagen, and, closer to home, Volvo - and, perhaps more relevant to this news, Chinese automotive brand BYD and its prestige offshoot, Yangwang.

Meanwhile, the display is said to use a large 4K HDR flip-down screen with custom-engineered imaging technologies and intelligent ambient light adaptation, designed to preserve picture quality as lighting conditions change inside and outside the vehicle.

Goer Dynamics and IMAX say the system will be offered in modular configurations, allowing vehicle manufacturers to tailor loudspeaker layouts and equipment packages across different models, cabin sizes and trim levels.
Chinese EVs Lead The Way
EVs and, more specifically, the Chinese market seem the most logical place for this tech to gain a foothold. Not only because of the sheer number of vehicles coming out of China right now, (16.49 million New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) were sold in China alone in 2025, 8.1 million of which were pure battery models) but, as we have already talked about, the quiet cabins and lack of an ICE trobbing away in the background make a sensible environment for high-end audio on the move, even if some cheaper electric vehicles are skimping on sound.

Additionally, as Daniel Manwaring, CEO of IMAX China, points out, the rise of autonomous driving would make immersive entertainment an increasingly important part of vehicle buying decisions, adding that IMAX sees an opportunity to “set a new standard in premium in-vehicle entertainment.”

Tony Jiang, Chairman and CEO of Goer Dynamics, said the partnership combines Goer Dynamics’ experience in high-end automotive acoustics and smart cockpit systems with IMAX’s imaging technology to create what the company describes as a premium mobile cinema experience. For IMAX, the deal also extends its push beyond traditional cinemas into live events, home entertainment, merchandise and now the car cabin.

This collaboration may or may not have been a deciding factor in Dynaudio’s recent withdrawal from North America. That said, from a purely business perspective, if you are not getting a decent return on investment in one area, it makes sense to cut your losses and put what you already had earmarked for that area towards a more promising venture. Right now, the numbers do seem to favour IMAX in EVs.
We cannot wait to experience the latest blockbuster while in the commuter gridlock of the near future.
