Very nice system Darren!

Am I reading that right? 4K for JC1's?

Yes that's correct, one had gone pop. I think I paid $1200 or something for one and the rest went to Trev (Zaphod) to repair the other one, everything has been fine ever since.

Valhalla's still in the cupboard as spares .....waiting for you :thumb:.............ML2s I have not heard but have heard the ML1s on a few occasions now...  are you a fan? I think there are a few in WA will have to track them down and have a listen to them .Back for good soon.

Look forward to the pics of the 808.....is it  far away from arriving?

What a cracking deal. That's awesome. What did he think about their build/design?

@Jones99 hullo mate, will be nice to have you back! Meridian here by the end of the week I think. :)

I am a fan of Mikes speakers though have not heard ML2's in my own room but Mike and I are chatting. :)

I think the 1038's might be muffled in my room, I think they need a big space so am thinking of some larger stand mounts to see if we cant get a tad more imaging going on. The 1038's sound excellent halfway to the other end of the house, haha. Good to know you still have the Valhallas.

@CryptiK  Trev seemed impressed with John Curls design and he was also pleased with the assistance he got from Parasound themselves. All good news for me, he has seen the innards of an amp or two. I love them, that extra power improves the sound so much, you can never have too much amp power IMO.

@Zaphod Beeblebrox some quick thoughts?

They're OK. Not an easy amp to service. Fairly typical of mass produced products, in that service is a secondary consideration. Quality components used, though non-counterfeit output devices are difficult to source. Sound quality is excellent, like all John Curl designs.

So, in short: Design - Excellent. Build quality (WRT service) - So-so.  Sound quality - Excellent.

Just wondering about the dimensions of your music room, and whether your NEW ML2s will be suitable.

I have no ML2's yet mate.

From the listening possie, room is 6.1m wide by 3.6 long by 2.4m to the ceiling.

SO, around 52 cubes.

Also, I do listen every now and then at big SPL so not sure how stand monts would cope with that. Rock/Metal et al.

They won't.

Not taking anything away from the ML2s but what they do and what you want is miles apart.

I know you haven't got the ML2s yet, just some suggestive thoughts:)

The ML2s will produce high SPL in your room, my room is 5.7 wide by 9.3 long and I play a lot of loud metal also,  although I try and protect my ears as I get older, generally no more than 86 db, but 90-95 db with peaks above 100 db is no problem for these speakers, and the output is still controlled.

I heard some ML2 +r recently at a member's place and they sounded very impressive indeed. I just wish I could afford a pair, although another locally made alternative will soon audition for permanent residence in my room and I am hoping it works out. I heard them on another system at another place and they showed enormous promise.................we shall see;)

@awayward I appreciate the thoughts from you, very interesting.

@rantan what are you getting mate?

All will be revealed in time mate.

Sometime next week I will have a verdict, although I am divided because I don't need new speakers and I love the two pairs I already have but..................if these new speakers are as good as I think they might be, I will have a very hard time to avoid buying them;)

@darren69

Looks like you still have the itch :).

I have some idea of what you like and your system and you have heard mine. The difference is that we like different types of music.

In my opinion the ML2's have to be evaluated based on the version as in Reference or Limited etc. They are standmounts as well, which means in some of the configurations you have to have the rights stands which add to the expense. You have to look at the crossovers and the capacitors  etc.

Then you IMO have to look at what type of music you like.

So, if I start over I would go for the Limiteds, they are better than my Osborne Eclipse Tower References.  Budget wise they are more expensive , but not that much and they fit my type of music better.

I could settle for References, but there is IMO an interesting difference. For my type of music the ML2's are better on vocals as my speakers are a bit muffled - hard to understand as they have the metal tweeters. But then when it gets to rock and stuff like that my speakers are better. IMO I would like the ML2's, my wife I think would stay with the Osborne's

Your Focals would have  more Bass than the ML2's and you already need the Ascension woofers to give you the bass you like.

The further problem is the cost of change over - if only I had the knowledge then !!!

My view.

With your taste: Take you amps and woofers to Mike and have a listen. There are just too many variables and we are not that far from him.

Anyway  - looking forward to listen to the Meridian

@Lenehan Audio and I are chatting but he is a busy man and I am a broke man (post Meridian) so it's not a relationship that's going to yield much until after Chrissy, haha!! @Jventer we shall be having a GTG around that time as well, for sure.

But yes, am hoping to listen to some ML2's in my own room whilst the Focals are still there as well, Mike isn't far away and has stands and ML2 demos and I have had some (as usual) amazing offers from some SNA members as well. Tis a great culture we enjoy here and I don't take it for granted.

Limited/Reference etc, I don't know about that stuff, the Ltd is the king pin?

Edited by Darren69

Limiteds are the top of the range, but even then they may have different configurations, e.g external crossovers.

Maybe I should measure what SPL I get up to sometimes when doing me drinkin. :D

Would get the hand-wringers going!

I recently switched over from my Osborn Eclipse References to the ML2 +R. The Osborne's provide bigger and more extended bass (the ML2's bass is a bit more focused and defined); the ML2's have better midrange; the Osborn's beryllium tweeter more incisive treble although the ML2 was 'sweeter' (IMO).  Overall however, the ML2's were better balanced and more cohesive (Johannes, you know my thoughts about this) - for my musical preferences.

However, if I wanted something for hard rock and movie blockbusters, I'd go for the Osborns. Usual caveats: source, power, and the Room...

I find my Beryliums are a bit harsh with my crap recordings. The Meridian is here now so will be interesting to see if putting that in the mix makes any improvement.
