That would be the 2K version, not the 4K

4k for 55" is really pointless ! uhd and latest hdmi probably more the important thing. with anything display wise buying these days to keep some hope of future capability would try make sure its hdmi 2.0A and hdcp 2.2

A good price . It was $3,200 in June.

Obviously coming down in price.

all distributors and retailers are dumping their stock of TV's at the moment as they get ready for the next years range.

even if a price is advertised cheap im sure you could haggle an even better price

They certainly are trying to empty out the shelves I was at JB DFO Essendon last Sunday and spent some time watching a couple of 4K 50inches. I'm not so sure why everyone bangs on about the benefits of bigger screens but yeah the bigger the better but these 50inches 4K was in my affordability and the clarity was amazing on 4K demo that was on a USB stick:post-118179-0-47809600-1450992706_thumb.

What will you watch on them?

A constantly looping bit of stunningly clear scenery will soon get boring.

When they start showing live sport or nature Docos in 4K I will get interested.

Channel Nein has only just started showing stuff in proper HD after more than 10 years faffing about with SD

Sony reckon 16 mths ago at the Melbourne Hifi show that 4K disc content will be available before Xmas 2015, haven't seen any at the shops yet. It's like waiting every other support in slow motion attempting to catch up! Certainly no free to air 4K transmission but there was talk it will be ther for the next Olympics, not sure how this will eventuate, and even if it did I'm happy to watch everything on 1080 until my panels crapped out! And by the time my panels crapped out, there will possible be 8k on the shelf! :D

because screen size determines a couple of things...what distance you can view at to fully resolve the resolution you are looking at...and immersion to get yourself pulled in the experience....

I use a 50" for day to day use...however forget about 4K to fully resolve 1080p you need to sit at 1.97m or under to do that ! THX recommends 1.5m. for immersion in a screen that size to THX spec you need to sit at 1.8m to 2.5m keeping in mind 50" is huge by comparison to some years ago when 21" 4:3 square tellys were a large screen. its quite suitable for day to day TV though as nothing we watch on tv is 1080p there is a smattering of 1080i and real HD with any decent sort of bitrate to support is still rare. so in some ways 50" sitting at a distance to not fully resolve what you are looking at is a good thing.

now lets come back to 4K to fully resolve you need to be at 1-1.5x screen heights....wiht a 50" screen only being about 600mm high ....get ready to get your nose upto the screen...well not so bad...about 600mm or 2 foot away.... or at most 900mm or under 1m way. who watches a TV at that sort of distance ....probably only those checking out a new TV in the shop...notice theyre setup in narrow aisle...so you are forced to look at it from about 1m away...yeah 4K pristine demo will look good at that distance vs the bit starved every day TV, DVDs and blu-ray even at that close a viewing.

thats why people bang on about size. at your typical 3m viewing distance people view at ...you need about a 1m+ high screen at the least to resolve 1080p and for 4K you'd need 3m high or 240 inch ! diagonal sized screen. this re creates a better than imax experience but not something realistically going to fit in a home given our 2.4m - 2.7m ceiling heights :D

the blu-ray disc association said we would get 4k disc content and players before the year is out. they have done that ...with a couple of discs in japan and a panasonic player. sony has no disc player and hasnt released any disc content. CES is 10 days away expect a raft of releases and announcements at this one. LG already has their player announced but its only for release feb next year. most are saying feb is the date. i.e. post CES and once people are all back from their holidays and such.

4K free to air ? there only just managing limited 1080i with still not a sufficient bi rate to do real justice. the amazing thing is to watch really well shot studio made abc kids DVDs and look how good that is in picture quality vs supposed HD TV we get let alone the usual day to day dross.

it was just a scenery clip....im not jumping into 4k yet saxon hall  .

If the TV stations announced that they would be showing true 4K material in 2016 I would go and buy the equipment but we all know that is not going to happen.

There are dozens of TV stations in Australia and only a couple are actually showing 1080i many years after 1080P became available.

Sure 4K players will soon be available but they will only ever be a tiny tiny niche market
