mello yello Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 Currently Spinning had a special cameo featuring The Cure the other night the question that launched a thousand hips I've got both, but can't hear much between the two! Speaking of The Cure, I'm keen on delving into their catalogue. Just need some heads up as to what albums/periods etc are worth checking first. im going to the pleasure of "relocating" the subsequent posts ... 4
mello yello Posted April 11, 2015 Author Posted April 11, 2015 soundfan was first cab off the rank DisintegrationThe Head On The DoorBoys Don't CryThe above are a decent starting point. The lot. Yeah, seriously. @surf purplePornagraphySeventeen Seconds.Cheers,LeighSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk This is my preference too, after that they went all pop!.....like. Wish is excellent. But I like all their albums.
mello yello Posted April 11, 2015 Author Posted April 11, 2015 OK, then it's anything 'The Cure' goes! Should be interesting. @ just find the album that your fave Cure song appears on and start from there? Cheers, Leigh Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk @ If you do go for Pornagraphy Seventeen Seconds Don't forget the the razor blades, at least that is what some would recommend....they is dark, that's why I like them  I Robot - Alan Parsons Project. step one... start with Seventeen Seconds then Faith, go to Pornography then play Trilogy on BluRay and watch them perform (without even moving) then listen to all the layers in Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me go backwards to Head On The Door at this stage take a break, then get into a comfy position and play Disintegration (at least 3 times) then Wish see if you can find an old VHS version of Show or Live In Orange and enjoy some more live performances anything past Bloodflowers just sample online, most of it is hardcore, or go back and fill the gaps with what you have missed if you have got this far ( 3 imaginary boys, the top, wild mood swings ) see if you can find a copy of The Crow soundtrack for one of their best ...Burn nevermind ill play it for you, it encapsulates The Cure at their best go back to step one and repeat multiple times It would seem that we need an entire thread decicated to The Cure... We all love 'em. I know @@Viognier is a long term fan too Cheers, Leigh and then, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mixed_Up_%28The_Cure_album%29 remixes of all of the best ones
mello yello Posted April 11, 2015 Author Posted April 11, 2015 nah, im done Im going to get blamed for this arent i ? @ You always do. Rightly so. :nana Cheers, Leigh @ Damn, mello! I couldn't think of the other LP I liked....Faith! you gotta have Faith Side One the Cure after Bloodflowers - Hardcore - Blasphemous There ain't no bad Cure albums - just good ones and awesome ones. the Cure lp from 2004 is a ripper. tiz, the End of the World Damn, I wish they would be gring out a new album - its been 7 long years
mello yello Posted April 11, 2015 Author Posted April 11, 2015 OMG, I've been missing the Cure discussion! I love nearly all of their albums & own 15 of them + the Trilogy blu-ray, but top 5 for me (in some sort of order) is: Faith Seventeen Seconds Disintegration Pornography The Cure (S/T) Faith was my first taste and introduction to the band, so it holds the sentimental no.1 position. edit: I also have The Crow soundtrack...... Saw them at the Playroom before well known, was all of several people in there, Robert did not look excited Edit: Or maybe it was a look that said "WTF! an empty room apart from these two friggen trippers at my feet!" He would have meant that as a matter of fact  disintegration is my fav, not far behind is pornography album. the rest are good, but nowhere near these two, imo. Faith was my first I think, then Seventeen Seconds...then Pornography, after that I didn't bother.... I lost interest when they became famous and were being played on popular radio stations. May have to cheery pick a couple of LPs from the discography in the future. Disintegration, for mine.
mello yello Posted April 11, 2015 Author Posted April 11, 2015 (edited) The vinyl re-issue from a couple of years back is awesome. Just make sure you get the Euro pressing as the US pressing has non fill issues. shane, i have the original pressing that was available here at the time. how does that rate in comparison? reissue is a lot better. It is spread over 2lp's, whereas the original almost one hour was crammed onto one lp. It also has the 2 additional tracks that I think were on the original CD release. Overall more open sounding but maintaining its dark ambience and grinding bass. I never play my original Aussie pressing these days cheers cool! i will seek it out. domo arigato! scissor, paper, rock! ha ha James, Step right up - I wish!! Hard to go past the Cure - Seventeen Seconds. Moving past their guitar driven Buzzcocks/Violet Femmes like sound to one of their own with keyboards taking a primary position. German pressing from 1980. Primary - could be my fav Cure lp, until I play the next one UK original pressing - yummy @ I've got the 2010 US reissue. What's "non fill issues"? It sounds pretty good to me. All this talk of The Cure had me reaching for this: The Aussie vinyl version, and I actually think it is pretty good. Edited April 11, 2015 by mello yello II
mello yello Posted April 11, 2015 Author Posted April 11, 2015 i just asked Marc if all these posts can be moved to a new dedicated thread no answer Marc has a policy of not speaking with nefarious persons called Buck. it's just his way...... ZM. thanks for the leg up Zen, i thought he just didnt like the Cure he shouldnt have any problems then, cos Buck's not really my real name either ... (shhhh) Close to Me was playing while I was having a Thai sandwich in the 80s,The song puts a smile on my face every time I hear it! Stump

cafe67 Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 Does a good version of world in my eyes by depeche mode, no vids for it on you tube tho
mello yello Posted April 11, 2015 Author Posted April 11, 2015 is that the time ? trivia : According to interviews in the booklet for the Deluxe Edition of Three Imaginary Boys, the demo to the song is what caught Chris Parry's attention in 1978 and led him to sign the band to his newly founded record company, Fiction. The track was written by Robert Smith at the age of 16 one evening while sitting at the kitchen table feeling "utterly morose" watching the tap dripping and drinking his dad's homemade beer. It was first performed as part of the Easy Cure set around the band's local area of Crawley. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/10:15_Saturday_Night 1

mello yello Posted April 11, 2015 Author Posted April 11, 2015 hard to pick a favourite, just as you think youve nailed one, up pops another 2
wanta911 Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 Well done Buck on getting the thread started! I've spent a bit of time on my Cure CD collection in the past couple of weeks. I somehow ended up with remastered versions of: Disintegration Faith Seventeen Seconds Faith Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me All too compressed for my liking on my latest setup, so I've been replacing them with the original recordings via Discogs & eBay. The sad thing is that I have already owned all of these versions before - where's the face palm emoticon? Anyway, I'm now loving the much better dynamics on the originals when they are played LOUD! 1
soundfan Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 (edited) This is possibly my favourite Cure song, from the under rated (IMO) Wish album. Letter To Elise https://youtu.be/bLW22B5R3Mc Good on ya @ for starting this thread. We should probably do something like this more often, pick a band/artist that gets a lot of love here, and start a thread on them. Edited April 11, 2015 by soundfan 3
