  • Trying it for the first time tonight, watching the footy (muted) while playing some vinyl. Very nice.... I'll be drinking it again.

The Rosemount was a little better than I expected.

All this Riesling talk brought me to action. Cracked this baby (well maybe it's a grandma in Riesling speak) tonight with a lovely caprese salad that was topped up with some 20 year old balsamic. 707ea1b78009520ea7dbdb372a95754d.jpg

Moving on. The last of 6 of these. Listening to some Frankie Goes To Hollywood followed by some Rod y Gab.

My birthday is not until Jan next year. I thought I'd get a head start.

Haven't tried the pigs ear but had the plonk some years back. Can't remember what it is like but I do like Yalumba anything. It's got four years on it so should be mellow.

Got lost the other day. It happens. Often.

But whereas someone may thing of getting lost as an inconvenience, this time it was very convenient because

1) I was on my way to work

2) I stumbled upon a hidden distillery in East Perth.

A few days later I went with time on my hands, after reading interesting reviews about these guys. They're called Whipper Snapper, and their logo is a Lancaster Bomber with barrels instead of bombs. And they sell whiskey. Story goes the founders befriended an old WWII veteran who flew those machines, and all of them shared a passion for good whiskey. And there you go.

They've been up and about for around 2 years if I remember correctly, selling moonshine and 2 months old bourbon (a name they cannot use due to copyright or so). They'll get their first 2 year old batch from the US in July or so next year, but I was happy to try the 2 month old whiskey. However, I was driving, that's why I settled with taking a bottle home after being convinced by the fantastic smell that came out of the bottle.

And boy was I rewarded! Can't wait to get my hands on their next year first batch! A slight toffee/caramel aroma comes out of the glass just before sipping this whiskey, and it goes smoothly down, like silk.

Whipper Snapper have a café in East Perth, just behind Claisebrook station, in case one of the locals want to have a look. It's nicely decorated with memorabilia from WWII, their coffee is real good, and they sell bottles, and casks if you wish so. Me, I'm sticking to them for a while.

I guess whipper snapper as in "young whipper snapper". And two months is young.

I guess that's why it's labelled as Moonshine and not Whisky. :)

Not that there's anything wrong with that!

Cheers,

Leigh

I wouldn't mind trying it.

Ditto. Hence my 'not that there's anything wrong with that' remark! :):thumb:

Going by @@betocool's comments, it sounds far too refined to be called moonshine.

Cheers,

Leigh

It is illegal to name anything "moonshine" -- unless it has passed 1500 taste tests with a 100% "cats piss" rating.....

I was sitting in the beer garden at the Weihenstephan's beer university many a year ago in summer. Turns out Texas Instruments has a site in that town, and they were happy to invite the applicants to stay there overnight.

Bugger if I can remember the name of the town though...

Will come back...

Pistachios must be fresh with a real lager!

A fortified wine before dinner: Seppeltsfield Paramount Collection Rare Tawny ("includes wines over 100 years old and spanning 90 vintages"). Sweet nectar. Very good!

Forget the red but the beer is super nice and a real meal. I'm in love. So nice. Please try it.

Love a good Aussie sparkling red. This one is one of the best from my favourite Aus winemaker. Ashton Hills 1998
