My family room "budget" system

You scroll down and they just smack you in the face, what's the wife say about them. Maybe shouldn't call it a budget system any more.

Not impressed so far. If I keep em I'll get the off white socks so they blend in a bit better. Will also need lifting of the 'floating' wall shelf to the left, they just squeeze under the right one with about 3mm to spare when not in use.

I'm a Collingwood 6 footer and they are just below eye height when standing next to em

  • Little update;   bought a nos Marantz TT-15s a few months ago and sold my Project. Also added isoacustic feet to my Spatials and somewhere along the line also got some Lenehan speaker cable.

always interesting another take on things :)

good can explore !

have suitably edited your title...only "subtle"...but leaves wriggle room :D  let me know if need/want otherwise ...title that is ... not sure can help you speaker wise :D

What Maggie's are those.

I think you should keep them as you already have another box speaker setup.

Variety is required. Like Iam listening to Slowhand in DSD on my Grado PS1K right now.

Just nice smooth electric guitar.

Cheers,

There are other speakers in the grand plan, thankfully not as big nor as hard to drive, and certainly more WAF.

Certainly happy to listen to these for now, but think they are just too polite for a decent % of my library.

I would love to get a pair and have them sitting in lounge room before the wife got home and then have a video camera set up to catch reaction.

@@powerav, there was a double take, even though she knew I was going to get them. She has demanded they sit back close to the wall when not in use.

I think Magnepans could be renamed "The Widowmakers". I luv em though

sorry I missed your post last night. They are the deluxe 1.7's

Looks the business Neil.

What Melody Gardot album do you have? I've heard some of "My one and only thrill" which sounds not too bad on CD.

Do you have anything under the timber isolation your turntable is on.

I've got Herbies Grungebuster dots under my 20mm acrylic which was recommended. Keeps it nice and rigid.

Hi Matt. I bought 3 Melody Gardot albums off JohnA recently. My One & Only, The Absence and Worrisome Heart. I've heard the newest one on Spotify (IIRC) to and it's a little bit less jazz and more mainstream, but I like all of them for a mellow out at the end of a busy day.

I've got 1/2 sphere sorbothane under the Bamboo board. I had a marble base previously but I suspect it would resonate more than the Bamboo. Not sure if I could actually hear any difference though.

I figured you would be all over it with the isolation.

What are the pressings of MG like?  Her current album not as good, what I've heard, as My one and Only. Just my opinion. She does have a unique voice though.

Probably order My one and only soon from Imports CDs (ebay).

Anybody want to buy a sub [emoji50]

Straight out of the box these are bass heavy and I've been told it only gets better with 100-500 hours on them.

I guess 4 x 15" drivers will do that [emoji41]

Daft Punk Alive @ 85db to loosen up drivers and the pre amp volume is only at 9 o'clock [emoji23]

Holly resonating haemorrhoids Batman!

Is it possible to make a decent sounding sub without a box?

Do they have any whacky dispersion patterns?

They look a bit like 18Sound drivers, are they?

Cheers,

Jason.

Can't make any serious evaluations yet and not overly familiar with this recording, just wanted something I knew plumbed the lower octaves. Spec's say they go down to 37hz but it feels like I've got the sub connected, but haven't. I believe they are a modified Eminence pro drivers with custom horn load tweeter mounted concentrically in the the top 15" driver.

Yep, that looks possible, my mind was too closed when I first looked at them.

Anyway, they look tops!!

Cheers,

Jason.

Congrats on the new speakers !!!! :party

I've heard that open baffle bass can be about as pure as it gets.

And yes I might know someone who maybe wants to buy a sub !! :D

Oh oh yeah that's a great album that one bass wise :)

@Martykt , was only joking re the sub, I'll have to try it with lower listening levels and see if it still brings something "to the table". Wrapped at the moment but very early days, won't be able to keep these levels with the better half at home

Not as tall as the Maggies but they look a whole lot tougher!

  • Author

They are a lot tougher. 85-90db and just getting started. Would hate to think what@Joz would do if he got hold of the remote

Hehe I wasn't !! :P

Open baffle may in theory actually work well at lower volumes.

As they run in they'll most likely fill out and give you even more bass.

They look great, simple but effective. :)

Be afraid!
