XLR to RCA adaptors or cables - anyone using?

Featured Replies

Has anyone had issues using female XLR to RCA?

I'm looking to get a headphone amp that only has balanced connections but want to connect to my RCA only pre amp

I would connect to the headphone amp to my RCA tape out

I find RCA out to XLR in to be fine in most cases. If the cable is typical interconnect cable length and the ratio of input impedance to output impedance is 10:1 or better, it should be fine.

Thank you for the reply

The pre amp spec has the for tape 1 and 2 output impedance being 1k Ohm what the input impedance of the XLR inputs on the headphone amp is not listed but I will email and ask them.

Not quite on topic, but close.

I had Geoff at Aurealis make me an XLR-to-RCA pair of R1 interconnects so that I could run my DAC off its XLR outputs into my Manley preamp, which is RCA only.

The results were very disappointing - the sound was 'off', but not in a way that I could put my finger on. So I sent the R1s back to Geoff and had him convert them to a standard RCA pair. I should mention that Geoff was somewhat reluctant to make the ICs for me, and later told me the results are always a little hit and miss because of unpredictable grounding issues that can arise.

However, I did have success with Neutrik XLR-to-RCA adaptors, but in the end I stuck with RCA ICs from DAC to preamp.

Robertson cables do a number of xlr-rca cables

UNBALANCED RCA INTERCONNECTS

Robertson Audio Cables - RAC are specialists in creating premium Handcrafted audiophile interconnect cables using the highest grade pure silver components for an unparalleled listening experience. Inc

In the most simplistic terms xlr connections have a positive signal, a negative signal and a common (or ground).

RCA connections have signal and ground.

The usual arrangement going from 3 to 2 is to connect the negative signal to ground.

Making the cable is child's play.

The question is whether or not the device(s) is (are) happy to have the negative signal connected to ground.

Most IC designs do not mind.
