I was in Richmond today, so I treated myself to finally having a listen to some headphones.  I had my Fiio M23 DAP with me, so off I went.

I preface this by saying I have no connection with A2A in any way.  I am just a guy over 60 who appreciates great service, regardless of where I find it.   It is truly a dying art to genuinely engage with people in a sales context.

I last visited A2A in Kew, probably 15 years ago.     Wow!  This new 3-floor store in Church Street, is spectacular.

I was greeted by 2 smiling gents at the front counter.   I was upfront and informed them I was researching headphones, and this was day 1.  I wasn't necessarily buying today.     That did not faze them in the slightest.  I was duly led up to the 3rd floor and introduced to the Headfi guru Matt.   Matt was 30-something, and a gem of a gent.  Professional, knowledgeable, polite and above all, genuine.   He asked me all the questions to get my base knowledge and what I was after.   Not once did he ask how much I wanted to spend.

My Fiio M23 seemed to inspire him, which was good 🙂

I tried Fiio, Fostex, HiFiman and Audeze.   From $300 to $2500.  Open/Close, Planar/Dynamic.     I finally realise why you guys have 3 or 4 different brands and styles.   HP's for the genre.   Got It!

I got the tradeoff between open/closed, and trying to get the best of both worlds.   Bottom end/clarity/separation/non-fatiguing.   Getting a '1 size fits all' is tough to do.

I didn't buy, but I will admit the Audeze LDC-X (Open) was the pick of the bunch for trying to get the best of all worlds, in my ears.

Great few hours spent.    Terrific service, with a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.    Thanks Matt and thanks AtoA.

Regards Cazzesman

The A2A guys have always been very accommodating when I’ve been in there. Jason is so knowledgeable and extremely generous with his time.
