I came across this album at a sensible price while searching for recordings featuring Irish singer Muirreann Nic Amhlaoibh on Fishpond. (Amazon Australia's price was ridiculously high, Amazon UK only has a 2nd hand copy on offer, and amazon US doesn't have it listed.) Now no longer available on Fishpond!

The album is mostly instrumental and she only sings on two tracks. Her singing is excellent as usual, as are the performances of all the musicians who contribute to this album.  The CD booklet contains notes in both Irish and English outlining the events of 1916 that are covered by this album, with a written commentary on each of the tracks and outlining the musicians who perform on them.  I think this is a very fine album indeed.

Charlie Lennon passed away on 8th June 2024 at the age of 85. RIP Charlie.

Its been a few years since I've played this album, so was overdue for a spin. It celebrates the connection between traditional Irish and Scottish music with songs sung in both Irish and Scottish Gaelic by Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh and Julie Fowlis.

There are also some personal connections as Julie Fowlis is married to Eamon Doorley who plays fiddle with Irish band Danu. Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh also used to be the lead singer in Danu before she left the band in 2016.
