Acoustic Panels and Bass Trapping a new lounge

Featured Replies

Last weekend I finally completed my diffused acoustic panels which have been a fill in project for a long time. The panels are a standard 1200 x 600 and about 430mm deep. I used the fluffy pink batts for minimal flow resistance so they act as lower frequency bass traps. I have a stack of these in each back corner. Previously I had commercial 200mm panels there and now those have been moved to the front corners to double up to and also provide 400mm of panel depth. The panels also have a 400mm air gap. The ceiling has a series of 12 panels supported on chains with an air gap. Next step is to redo the room correction and I might try some room measurements to see how well it performs. I added the diffusion to the rear panels to prevent some of the over damping I was experiencing with the panels and I have about half the ceiling panels with diffusion added. I also have some skyline diffusers at the side reflection points.

@DVDHack did doubling the damping thickness work out sound wise?

In other words to your ear, is the room sounding even better after the mods.

Im not sure yet. I run Bacch4mac in my system and there is an update I need to install. This update requires a complete redo of the profiles so i decided to wait for the acoustic treatment since that would necessitate new measurements anyway. i've done the install of the new version but havent done the measurement process. What I have noticed is the room is slightly more live with the diffusion panels.

I'll post again when Ive set up my system and had a listen. Sure hope it makes a difference, it was a lot of work.
