Can anyone help with a weekend away?

Featured Replies

Evening all,  not really a wine and food query although that's what we will mainly be doing!

Just looking at booking a long weekend trip to Sydney or Melbourne and it seems that you can get a package with airfares and hotel cheaper than just buying the airfares.

It seems odd but just wanted to check if this is other people's experience?

Cheers,  s.m

Sounds like 'package' is the way to go then.

Airfares have become pretty exhorbitant since covid, so not surprising that agents can get better deals based on bulk purchase arrangements.

Location is everything when staying in large cities, so don't compromise on whereabouts you want to stay in Melb/Syd.

If you can get cheaper fares by buying them together, then go for it. I remember doing that for my first trip to Bali in 1988 - from Darwin, it was cheaper to get the flight + 7 nights in Kuta than to just get the flights. Stayed 2 nights in Kuta then left for Candidasa.

But flights now are cheaper in dollars than they were back in the 80's - and considering I can fly (2 people) to Cairns return for $158 + 56,000ff points...I'm not sure how they can afford the petrol!

For OP - if you find it, go for it. Just make sure you spend a little extra on insurance...
