Whenever possible, I always have music on whether be at home, on the road or even at a hotel while travelling with portable speakers. Right now, I have background music playing from my phone to blutooth speakers in the hotel room. Can't live without a music. I tell my wife that I am addicted to the music. 😅

Same here. It's also virtually mandatory to help me cope with my Meniere's disease.

Goddamn, the MSO are doing the entire cycle next year, and Jaime Martin is a superb Beethoven conductor. Looks like I have to do the marathon.

@Ittaku It's nasty work but someone's gotta do it. "Next year" or Nov-Dec this year?

11 MSO concerts booked for next year. Whew, what a program, but I've always wanted to do the entire Beethoven cycle much more than the whole Ring cycle for example.

Hi Con,

If you like piano music you should check out the finals for the Sydney International Piano Competition. Live streaming.  Tomorrow night and Saturday afternoon.

Great concert. Lovely sounding organ. I hadn't been the Town Hall in years and the acoustics there are wildly different to the revamped Hamer Hall so it was very interesting to compare. When the MSO last played that symphony around 20 years ago I attended the concert at Hamer Hall and they had that underpowered organ in the then concert hall and it was not a pleasant sound with all the stops pulled and running out of puff. It was far better with the Town Hall's grand organ.

Tube testing time. Retired 2x6550 and 2xKT150s in time for this afternoon's get together.

No report on the event this time? 🙂

Hah. The gathering was so social in the end that there wasn't even a single moment of critical listening from anyone. No one left the wine tasting table to even sit in the hot position at any time.

Oh and as a followup if anyone's interested, the tube hours were about 2700 hours on the 6550s, and double that on the two KT150s (which were in the driver position so the output tubes are now >5000 hours and running strong.) The power amps tend to chew through 6550s since they're used as voltage regulators.

Not sure which of two things I am most disappointed about:

1. Not seeing an event report, as per @tripitaka's comment, or

2. Not being able to be at the table for the wine tasting, which must have been so good that nobody spent enough time in the "hot seat" to be able to write up a report!

Hah well here's my report:

We listened to only classical yesterday as all the attendees are classical aficionados, all from my regular get together playlist.

One of the attendees brought some music of their own which was mixed in with my usual playlist.

The system sounds the same as it has for almost the entirety of this last year since nothing has changed.

The wine was great.

On that note perhaps I should have an open invitation to another get together sooner rather than later?

I'm tentatively proposing next Monday afternoon 20th November for a get together here. Provided enough people are interested I'll go ahead with the plan. Rules of engagement are bring something of your choice to drink, and preferably do not drive here. Cheese, music, and a lot of verbiage from me shall be provided, though you are free to bring your own.

Send me a message if interested, and repeat offenders are more than welcome to come again.

@Steff I highly recommend you listen to this system and Con's choice of music.

I'd love to come, but have to work. When there is a GTG on a Wednesday I will put my hand up. 🙂

My wife's away next Monday so won't have to put up with the organ shaking the floor whilst working upstairs.

Amps warm and biased and ready for this arvo's GTG.

Another wonderful afternoon in front of @Ittakus beautiful system, what a treat it is to listen to his system and learn a few things about system setup based on his encyclopedic knowledge.  It was another happy group of music lovers in attendance, showing off their superb multi-tasking skills in being able to perform critical listening while chatting convivially and working their way through a very nice food platter and slurping pretty decent wine.

Thanks to our host!

Thanks to our host @Ittaku and everyone involved for a convivial time spent and much new music heard. And also thanks @Keith_W for pinging me here . We listened loud all the way to 117dB, I think, but my 👂s are not ringing.

Thanks again @Ittaku for your generous hospitality with sharing your system and passion in all things hifi and music. Wonderful to meet @tripitaka @Steff
Been fortunate to listen to 2 outstanding systems by @Ittaku and @Keith_W in the past few months  having had to pause my hifi listening while waiting for home renos to finish so I can have access back to my listening room.

Great that you were able to make it, Steff.  👍

Yes, it's a wonderful listening experience.  (That would be an interesting exercise ... to go up to 117dB with my system!   )
