My Simple Music Therapy Centre

Recommended Posts

Probably the first time ever that I'm posting any info on my music system, which is also my stress reliever. My system comprises the following:

Accuphase E-407 with AD10 (my absolute old faithful since 2000)

Bel Canto DAC 3.5VB, Bel Canto Transport CD3t

Dr Feickert Woodpecker & 10.5" Arm, Denon DL-304, Benz Micro Glider SL (previously Karat 17D3)

Alesis ML-9600, Cocktail Audio X10, Burson Audio Headphone Amp

Neat Momentum 3i

Other than the turntable and amplifiers, all sources are connected thru' the DAC 3.5.

Bad photos of my setup below:

Yup, the AD10 which was the current model for this amp at that time.

It's not a built-in phono stage, but a mm/mc phono card that comes as an option. Simply just loosen the cover behind and slot it in and screwed on. Settings for varying impedance and switching to mm are done on the board itself.

Seeing that you use Neat speakers, you might want to try an external phono with good PRaT like Whest or Dynavector P75. The Whest dealer does allow home trial. When I compared built-in on Shindo pre vs external phono, even a mid-range external phono performed way better than the Shindo's highly regarded phono section.

I guess when tap on to the same power supply as the amp, plus close proximity to transformers, there is a compromise with noise and limited dynamics of any in-chassis phono.

No harm trying external since its free home trial, and your turntable does deserve a good phono to sound at its best.

Well, I might just think about it. Thanks for letting me know.

I'd had the opportunity to compare my accuphase with my friends' Naim NAC52/NAP135/250, Tom Evans with LP12 and lingo several years back. I must say I am not disappointed at all with my accuphase amp and phono. I would have to spend anything at least 2K upwards to better it in my opinion. The phono card only cost me SGD820 in Year 2000.

I sent you PM so as not to clutter this thread and going off-topic. Cheers!

My new addition - Funk Firm's FXR II 12" tonearm. The included counterweight is too heavy. So, I had to add a cartridge weight for the time being while awaiting the lighter counterweight from Funk. Pick of tonearm in action here.

Finally replaced my 13 year old E-407 and AD10 phono stage with the E-460 and AD30. Unfortunately, while trying to switch between Denon DL-304 and the Benz Glider S L I broke my relatively new DL-304's cantilever.  :'(
