Not D24. Very sweet like Kaya. Normal sized seeds. These days D24 is passe. Favourite is Cat Mountain King.

Those who love durians, u should pay the outdoor stall at dempsey road carpark and try their "milk king" and "butter" durians. Won't regret!!!

i gotta get out more :(

try eating some stinking blue cheese

as a matter of fact, i love blue cheese. but i stay away from goat cheese, this is the real super duper stinker.

Anyone here who cannot stand the smell of durians like me?  ??? One evening as a teen, my mum opened the fridge which was stuffed with durians. I was in the hall and asked, "How come the tung sampah man collect rubbish so late today?"  ;D

my favorite is golden phoenix, better than cat mountain king  :P

Wow...so many durian lovers. Golden Phoenix very rare.....as rare as XO durians. But my fav & taste is still

Cat Mountain King. At $12/per kg, you cant go wrong.

i believe some of you may know this already. you can actually rent a small plot of land in some of the durian farms in segamat/malaysia for as low as s$100-1000/year (depending on quality of growth) and have your fill of durians from that plot of land at any time for the whole year ;D

Atcually, this scheme has been ongoing more than 10 years back. These leasees are mostly Sporeans who loved their durians.

The best plot for high quality durians currently is in Tangkak & Raub. Anyone want to invest in Cat Mountain King Version 2.0?

yes you are right about the ten years timing. but how are the durians in segamat compared to the ones mentioned in this thread. what are your opinions ;D

Not sure about Segamat durians. All i know that the masses of durians being sold in Geylang & Rochor comes from Segamat.

Though Tangkak is very near Segamat, Im aware of this person in Tangkak who owns several hundred acres of durian plantations which is

of superior stock & its no wonder that these durians never made it to Spore.

Ive tried it back in 2007 (cant remember the name of the durian) & its taste is simply exquisite. Now, my fav durian seller tells me of another

plantation that produces these high quality durian in Raub, that's in Pahang.

My definition of good durian - bitter, creamy & gives a lingering after taste. If next day i have sore throat, confirmed its good durian  :P

+1. But unfortunately the flesh is often very skinny with these ones.

Interesting isn't it? other fine foods also share these traits of slight bitterness and creaminess and a long lingering after taste: good coffee and tea, Scotch whiskey, good beer, smoked salmon, good (dark) chocolate, blue cheese....

But sometimes its nice and satisfying to eat a chunky portion of say durian or commercialised chocolate (e.g. a Mars/ Vispa) that is cheaper but more fufilling to the mouth albeit less flavoursome.

For me, the sore throat comes in a few hours. So after the taste is no longer in my mouth. I quickly quaff down some salad, fruits and lots of barley water.

Where to go to get the best durians in Spore?  I always go to Combat at Balestier Road.  The cat mountain last Sat was ...ooo la la.  Very satisfying.
