Otherway round mate - I see they now list it as Region Free when previously it wasn't - up until December or early January it was listed as not Region Free based on the pre- and early-release copies Blue-ray Lies & Blu-ray Stats quote. I hadn't checked it the last 2 months or so (I've been watching it religiously since Amazon had pre-release ordering available)... That's good news but a little too late...

Finally got Death Race, from K-mart of all places... TWL was 'sold' out since release day, no rain check notice ( I get in there on the day too). K-mart was same price as TWL so no biggy.

Hey Griffy - I've been into a few Kmarts in South Auckland and haven't seen any BluRays. Seems like you're lucky down there. What kind of price do they sell them for?

it doesnt say its been remastered although I had a quick look at it and it looks pretty good and is pushing out DD5.1.. dunno enough about it, I've always been a fan, so thought it was a bargain.

I kinda like the vintage look when it's appropriate. Enter the Dragon is a classic though. A pity he lived in the bottom of a valley. Very bad feng shui. Look what happened to him, and then his son!

Well if its not had the image remastered from th eoriginal and is just DVD quality and the audio is only DD 5.1 (rather than LPCM or Lossless DTS or Dolby) its probalby no better than the DVD copy for pic and sound quality when played with a good player...

Johnny - the Manukau one has a few - or had a few - they were mixed in amongst the DVDs (on one side of one of those stands in the central aisles) - but they only had about a dozen in total (and only about 6 titles) and all were silly $45+ prices... That was a couple of months ago...

The Botany store was similar it had even less - like literally about 6-8 copies (of about 4 Titles) on just 2 shelves of one of those racks (and that was around Christmas, or rather just after I think).

I haven’t been to Hunters Corner for a long time - so haven't look in the Papatoetoe store for over a year or more...

I think they must have brought a few (like quite literally 'a few') Blu-Rays into the stores pre-Christmas or earlier and then never restocked them (nor promoted their presence in store) - and their staff are no help!

Kmart are always terrible to buy any DVDs from as they butcher most of them... I bought heaps of Star Trek Sets on special a few years ago and they had lost half the packaging sleeves and stuff from them because they insist on opening all the box sets and taking the discs out... Plus their stickers and price tags are almost irremovable and ruin the appearance of the packaging and in my case some of the discs were heavily marked with fine scratches and lots of finger prints and hand grease - a couple of my discs don't play properly because of scratching (but I only found out 6 months later as it took a while to watch all 25 Seasons of TNG, DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise end to end - and about half of them came from Kmart). I also couldn't buy a couple because they couldn't find all the discs for them!

The biggest cheek is they try to claim you can't bring faulty discs back because once you take them out the shop they are absolved due to the risk that you may have pirated or damaged them - and they are the one's who treat the discs like crap and damage and lose them in the first place! And they have a suitable security system but are too lazy to use it or too cheap to buy a few extra tags for it!

Rant Over! ;)

A whole bunch of BR's on Amazon.uk have dropped to 10 and 9 pounds. Also many are in the buy 3 for 2 sale. I picked up:

Die Hard

Die Hard 4.0

3:10 to Yuma

Final Fantasy

Close Encounters Of The Third Kind (30th Anniversary Ultimate Edition)

In The Line Of Fire

Was NZ$130 which works out to $21.60 each, so pretty happy.

Well worth checking out to see if anything you like is on sale.

Does an old print warrant a BR release?

Remastered?

This BR looks great.

It uses the same 1080p master as the 2007 HD-DVD.

Sound is Dolby Digital 640kbps.

I am thinking of placing a German order in the next few days mainly for some German blu-rays that are not available in US. If anyone wants anything, drop me a PM with the title(s) you are interested in and the price you saw it for. Yes, I understand there are hardly any bargain blu-rays to be had out of Europe, but some good titles such as The Machinist, Perfume of a Murderer etc are only released exclusively in Europe.

I just grabbed 6 movies in this sale including Casino Royale, Ratatouille, Rambo and Die Hard 4 for just over $120. Prices ranged between 8 and 10 pounds for the movies I selected and there were plenty to choose from.

$20 per movie is a price that I am very happy to pay.

Yup...i have had pretty much every version region 1 and 4 on DVD. The HD DVD version definitely has a sharper image with way better colours. As for sound.. not too much a DTS HD sound track can do for Bruces whoops and squeals :)... as Bruce says.."Dont concentrate on the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory".

Just to confirm, have you tried playing it on a Region A player and it doesn't work? Thanks.

Sorry no region A machine for me to try. I only tell what they printed on the box and disc surface. May be someone with a region A player can help.

Is it not + £1.59 shipping to Australia, not free? Seems like a reasonable price for a new title.

They haven't been adding shipping on to Aussie orders. Not sure why. I've put in two orders and both came up with no shipping charges
