B&W 685 is a fine speaker that I own previously but not as refine and control but it midrange is something to admire for the price. B&W 685 S2 is more refined than it predecessor B&W 685.

As I move the B&W 685 and upgrade to something better and more expensive for refinement, control and deeper bass.

But I still miss the B&W 685 midrange which something special for that price range. The B&W 685 S2 will be better overall and less distortion.

I would suggest go with B&W 685 S2 if you can return and have the budget.

Thanks for the comments on the 685s @audiohobbs.

I'm interested how they perform with the Class D monos.

I am using some Usher S520s with my W4S STI-500 after selling my LS50s. From what I gather the 685s could work well with this amp.

goodness ! thats quite a change after some years.

am not sure of the woofers popping out like that.

be nice to see one in rosenut and so pleased to see them keep that woodgrain finish. far too many makers going for the high gloss automotive finishes

looks like the FST is still there just called continuum...what ever that is ?

I think they look better.  The 802-D3 is 22 kg's heavier than the 802...wonder where the weight's coming from.

Below is a vague video but it seems the continuum driver is an improvement on the FST driver, some new space age material perhaps...

Continuum has been an R&D Project for the past 8 years 2007 - 2015, the D3 series will feature the new driver.

Typical, I finally get a pair, and a few months later they upgrade them.

Buggas.

I prefer the look of the current 802 and 800d but would be interested to listen to these.

Still looks like the kevlar (or at least some kind of composite) is still there just no longer yellow.

I reckon these will be very good.

Big surprise for me is the Nautilus is still on their website!! I thought that finished years ago before the earlier 800 series was using the nautilus name!! One of those rare revolutionary speakers that I would have loved to have heard but never got the chance!!

They still sell the Nautilus.

Anyone else looked at the specs on the 802 D3  ?   They are 17Hz to 28KHz +/- 3db.   wow.........

So low end and midrange should be major improvements.

I do prefer the look of my current 802 D2s, but would expect the new cabinets to be extremely rigid, and looks like they now have aluminium woofer mounts inside the cabinet, which probably gives the rigidity to get down to 17Hz.

Cheers,

Steve

The new range currently comprises three floorstanding designs (802 D3, costing £16,500 per pair; 803 D3, yours for £12,500 per pair; 804 D3, at £6750 per pair), a standmounter (805 D3, £4500 for a pair) and a pair of centre-channel speakers for home cinema applications (HTM1 D3 for £4500 and HTM2 D3 at £3000).

There are also a couple of stands, one (FS-805 D3, £450 per pair) to support the 805 D3 and one (FS-HTM D3, £450) to support a centre speaker.

In the spring of 2016 the range will be topped out by the 800 D3, a floorstander that will sell for £22,500 per pair.

Really, that makes them $9817.38 in Aussie dollars for the 805's.

I don't think so.....

Cheers for the prices.

personally am not sure on the looks ...apart from the 804D rest out a bit awkward

seems to have followed the design lines of this model from some years ago

prefer the look of the current series, but quite likely as often the case photos dont do justice,

I think they will be rather regal looking in the flesh.

Anyway, looks like I'm stuck with mine for the near future if those prices are correct.

First world problems.

This looks like a few of the DIY threads on here. Whilst i'm sure they sound amazing, these look awkward to me.

I think most people would be happy to be "stuck" with the 805 Diamonds  :)

I think I'll manage ;)

One thing though, if those British prices are correct, and the conversion to Aussie money is close to what they may cost here, I for the life of me cannot see a $4000 improvement from the current 805's to the new ones. Sure a better driver replacing the Kevlar one, but what else are we getting for that kind of cash?

your probably paying for the R&D, setup cost etc to get a complete change in design up and into market place. in real terms for the end user the difference/benefit will be proved in the listening :)
