IIRC the video & audio data is transmitted on the same set of HDMI data channels.

If no audio, it’s either audio is not being transmitted by BDP; or audio is being ignored by AVR.

Since the other devices still work, try factory reset the BDP then re-test.

If it still does not work, next is to check the AVR audio setting. Maybe the audio source was inadvertently set to optical/coax instead of hdmi.

From AVS:

(cross-post)

Recently, D+M released a firmware update which triggered an issue with the Marantz SR8012/AV8805 and Denon X8500H.

What happened

When the problem was identified, D+M disabled the firmware auto-updating. However, if your product received the August 2018 update, the following settings will automatically change to default. This means you may need to re-configure again from the AVR setup menu. To confirm, there is no loss of AVR functionalities or performance.

• Audio — Audyssey, Restorer, Audio Delay, etc.

• Video — Output Settings, Picture Adjust, etc.

• Inputs — Input Assign, Source rename, Hide source, etc.

• Sound mode

Temporary fixes

• Audyssey settings can be restored by flipping the Audyssey MultEQ XT32 setting to “Reference”

• Network settings (incl. HEOS Account, Friendly Name, etc.) are not affected

• Users can re-configure their settings from the AVR setup menu

Permanent solve

• We will release an amended firmware update in early September — a fix might be shared sooner

• Does this mean Airplay 2 is on temporary hold? Yes, users with the above models will not be able to access and use Airplay 2 until D+M has released a new firmware update to fix the bugs

Hi guys, I am planning to upgrade my Denon 3311 and have Marantz 6012 or 7012 in mind. Given that my room is quite small, i will only go for 5.1.2 or maybe 7.2.2 at most.

Would any of you be kind enough to point out whether 6012 or 7012 is more suitable?

Depends on what is it that you need vs what you really want :

For HT, the differences aren't a lot. The 7012 may give slightly more power and perhaps better sound.

If you only want HT, the 6012 has a similar 'brain' compared to the 7012..

The 6013 is worth looking at too..

I can't imagine anyone owning both units at the same time to allow a meaningful comparison bro.. the 8805 owner isn't using his processor to the best either. A lot will depend on what cables he uses, the quality of his power amps.

Also as Desray posted in a different thread, the placement of the speakers and how much elbow grease one is willing to put into calibration often yields a more than just buying a bunch of kit. Specs also don't reveal much, but do note that some amps may have very impressive specs, but due to current throttling, they never get anywhere near the numbers printed in their brochures. That's where the 8805 can be much better: if it's partnered with solid power amps. That will bring the 8805 to a very different cost level..

Thanks for the input, I was thinking if the money spent is worth the added power...because that is what I perceive is different between the two models, unless i am mistaken hehe

U can try auditioning both with very demanding materials & decide from there :)

I'm not so familiar with the x012 series. But check if both have same chooser/DACs/parts/chipset/etc.

Thanks for the info on the 8805 price. Yup it's about there. In the end i bought the denon 8500h instead. Don't know if it's better for home theatre.

Me too, thinking of the 6012. yeah the screen is small but i guess we do not really look at the display on the receiver nowadays. Anyone know which shop has the best prices?

wonder how it displays for digital radio channels

afraid I have to strain my eyes while going thru the list while choosing, unless I turn on the TV.
